    Project Engineering Manager - Underground Mining Projects

    Job Description

    The purpose of this position is tprovide the essential Project Engineering Management processes, technical knowledge, and direction as listed.

    This role leads the engineering effort and is responsible for coordinating the individual Engineering Discipline Leads and the Project Document and Data Management (PDDM) Lead such that the most cost-effective total project solution for executing engineering work is achieved.

    Responsible for Project Engineering Management on single and/or multiple engineering, procurement, construction management (EPCM) studies from Concept tFeasibility as well as Project Execution with a specific focus on Underground Mining.

    Direct and manage the interface between Engineering and the other disciplines on the project including Process Engineering, Project Controls, Project Management, Procurement and Contracts, Construction, and the client team
    Translate global strategic initiatives intprocedures tbe implemented on projects

    • Act as a leader in applying Cost Competitive Execution techniques and develop the most cost- effective total project solution
    • Ensure that the engineering work on the project is completed on schedule, meets Fluor’s quality standards including review meetings and checking procedures, performance is within the baseline man hour and material budgets, required deliverables are produced, change management is executed in a timely manner, and Engineering Department Managers are apprised of issues related ttheir function
    • Work with Discipline Leads and Engineering Department Managers tensure that staffing levels are appropriate tachieve the engineering schedule commitments and personnel are assigned with appropriate ability
    • Develop estimates, schedules, progress reports, and key quantity tracking reports
    • Develop and review project Scope of Services, Scope of Facilities, and other project baseline documents for all phases of projects
    • Lead the squad check effort for vendor equipment documentation
    • Review the status of the schedule and progress performance with the Discipline Leads on a regular basis, and keep the Project Manager and Engineering Department Managers apprised of issues
    • Ensure the quality of the engineering execution and deliverables
    • Incorporate health, safety, and environmental factors in design
    • Coordinate the identification, monitoring and forecasting of project material quantities
    • Ensure that the engineering discipline leads are internally aligned and adequately interfacing with one another, and provide input regarding work process issues and opportunities for improvement
    • Develop appropriate work distribution plans and ensure in implementation of these plans
    • Distributed Execution Engineering is completed on time and within budget, and that it meets Fluor’s quality standards
    • Ensure the completion of required design reviews
    • Prepare/review scopes of work for third party contracts
    • Identify deviations in job scope, estimate magnitude of changes, and initiate trends or change orders
    • Direct and oversee audits prepared by the Engineering Management Department as well as the Discipline Engineering Departments
    • Engage Fluor’s global community, promoting a OneFluor mindset
    • Lead, promote and support the project value creation effort
    • Deliver quality work, and adhere tthe Operating System Requirements (OSR)
    • Execute project work in accordance with approved Activity Plans
    • Adhere tindustry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures
    • Contribute tand promote the use of Fluor’s knowledge management portals and communities

    Basic Job Requirements

    • Accredited four (4) year degree in Engineering.
    • At least six (6) years of Project Engineering Management experience on Underground Mining projects.

    Experience in the following will be beneficial:

    • Mining methods
    • Winder types
    • Steel and concrete headframes
    • Vertical & Incline shafts
    • Shaft conveyances for ore, material, and personnel
    • Ore handling systems from underground
    • Trackless underground equipment
    • Services tunderground

    • Ability tcommunicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited tmanagement, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders
    • Job related technical knowledge necessary tcomplete the job

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Six (6) years of experience in engineering, procurement, and construction/construction management (EPCM) industry including the performance of functional tasks on projects with a well-developed understanding of procedures and interfaces
    • Experience participating in risk assessments initiatives
    • Experience in international locations and diverse cultural environments is recommended
    • Previous successful performance in a project engineering position on a minimum of one (1) medium or large sized project
    • Detailed knowledge of Fluor’s software tools and databases preferred
    • Ability tdevelop and sustain productive customer relationships while meeting the company’s needs
    • Flexible and adaptable approach, willingness ttake on new work challenges; adaptable tchanging circumstances
    • Demonstrated strategic thinking, accountability, and adaptability skills
    • Ability tset and maintain high standards of performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments and tasks
    • Customer focused with ability tdevelop and sustain productive customer relationships while meeting the company’s needs
    • Proactive reporting of progress and accomplishments of assignments and apply necessary follow-up tmonitor progress and results of project tasks and assignments
    • Analytical approach tproblem solving and identifying potential solutions
    • Technical and business writing skills
    • Basic computer and software skills tinclude the use of word processing, email, spreadsheets, electronic presentations, and project management tools
