R&D SRA Scientist 12 Month FTC at PepsiCo

Job Description
Regulatory Affairs contractor for SSA Foods, providing regulatory affairs expertise to support the the rollout of the global CAST (Complete Accurate Specifications Traceability) project in SSA, either by directly involvement, or providing support to the existing RA team to enable them to focus on the delivery of the CAST project. This role will help ensure compliance with food and packaging regulations in the SSA region

Accountabilities
CAST

Support Regional SMME to deliver:

1. Validation of regulatory rule mapping
2. Validation of legacy label documents
3. Support to Regional SME with specific expertise as needed
4. Complete E-learning, Webinars, Day-to-Day usage in SAP System

Specification management

• Provide RA support during the review and sign-off of various specifications (ingredients/packaging/final product), with special focus on the roadmap to get Pioneer Foods specifications CAST-ready

Compliance

• Support the RA team to ensure ongoing compliance with all aspects of food and beverage legislation in relation to manufacture, composition, labelling and advertising, packaging and food contact materials for the range of PepsiCo products manufactured or sold in South Africa and export countries .

Accountabilities include:

1. Review of product design, composition, packaging and labelling requirements
2. Interpretational guidance on claims and positioning
3. Review of advertising and promotion governed by food legislation
4. Support import and export initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements
Key skills / Requirements

• Degree in Food Science or related discipline
• Excellent command of English (must be able to read, understand and apply regulations and use nuanced language for product claims)
• Detailed knowledge of South African food and beverage regulations, particularly areas relating to ingredients, final product, contaminants, packaging/food contact materials, labelling and manufacture. Knowledge of other African regulations will be an advantage.
• High degree of attention to detail, and strong executional capability
• A track record in interpreting and applying regulatory requirements in a commercial setting.
• Results-oriented, proactive self-starter, able to work independently and as a team player
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as ability to collaborate with other PepsiCo functions beyond RA
