RPO Recruitment's client, a leading and reputable construction company in South Africa is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to join their construction team on one of their latest projects in Bethlehem, Free State.
The Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety procedures on our building sites to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation.
Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
Ensure that safety practices are adhered to by all workers, subcontractors, and visitors on site.
Report and investigate any incidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions, and recommend corrective actions.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety training, and inductions for new employees and subcontractors.
Maintain safety records, documentation, and incident reports for compliance and audit purposes.
Collaborate with site supervisors and management to ensure a culture of safety is maintained across all operations.
Ensure the correct use of PPE and that all safety signage is displayed and up to date.
Liaise with local authorities and ensure all construction activities comply with statutory safety regulations.
Requirements:
Matric Certificate
SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent Health and Safety qualification
Valid registration with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Safety Officer is highly desirable
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry, preferably in building projects
Solid understanding of OHSA and construction site safety practices
Strong communication, observation, and reporting skills
Ability to work independently and under pressure
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Valid South African driver’s license
Benefits:
Salary: R288K – R336K CTC per annum with accommodation provided
