Meridian Wine Merchants is currently seeking a passionate and results-driven individual to join our team as a Sales Consultant on a Fixed term basis. At Meridian Wine Merchants, we expertly combine tradition and innovation to provide outstanding products tailored to our diverse clients. This position is based in Durban.
Duties and Responsibilities
Execute sales targets across the allocated territory in line with regional and national objectives
Drive revenue growth across both On-Consumption and Off-Consumption channels
Monitor sales performance by customer, brand, and area, and take corrective action where required
Identify opportunities to grow and expand the customer base
Develop and implement plans to close identified sales gaps
Ensure optimal product visibility and merchandising standards at outlet level
Execute in-store trade marketing activities and promotional campaigns in line with SOPs
Implement product changes, including new product introductions, vintage changes, and upliftment processes
Execute cycle briefs and trade initiatives as directed by the Regional Sales Manager
Ensure adherence to all in-store execution standards and customer-specific requirements
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to support long-term business growth
Conduct structured and effective trade visits in line with call cycle requirements
Identify customer needs and tailor solutions to maximise sales and engagement
Support new customer onboarding, including account openings and initial engagement
Manage all customer communication, including queries, complaints, and feedback in a timely and professional manner
Identify and execute promotional opportunities aligned to customer needs and business objectives
Facilitate customer training initiatives, including product knowledge, wine service, and category education
Support customers in driving category growth through activations and engagement initiatives
Contribute to enhancing customer experience and satisfaction through value-added interactions
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer records, call logs, and activity tracking on Salesforce and CG Cloud
Analyse sales data and compile reports to provide actionable insights
Track performance against targets and provide regular feedback to management
Monitor competitor activity and provide relevant market intelligence
Submit required reports and feedback in line with operational and RSM requirements
Execute order taking and processing accurately using handheld technology
Manage stock allocations in line with business requirements and customer commitments
Ensure full compliance with Salesforce and CG Cloud usage standards
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
Maintain high standards of accuracy, professionalism, and operational discipline
Qualifications and Experience
Grade 12 (Matric)
2–3 years’ experience in a sales, FMCG, or retail environment
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, CG Cloud) advantageous
Valid driver’s license and legal right to work in South Africa
