    Securities & Derivatives Sr Analyst

    Responsibilities
    Job Background/context :

    • Equity Ops supports the local Equities Markets business directly through post trade processes and controls, reconciliation, and reporting.
    • Responsible for prompt & efficient processing and reporting of the group’s day to day trade flow, implementing process improvement and ensure full compliance with current control procedures, JSE rules and Regulations and global reporting standards.
    • Volumes driven by market volatility, political events, and global events.
    • Flexi-time position – early shift starts at 6am to accommodate client reporting - late-shift to accommodate Trade Support until 7pm. 
    • Client facing role dealing either directly or indirectly via the Client appointed administrators.
    • Analyzing different processes to evaluate controls
    •  Elements of the risk reduction book of work initiatives being worked through with our multiple cross geography processes and partners.
    • Balance Sheet substantiation and financial accounting proofing obligations, exception and control responsibilities and governance.
    • Preparation and presentation of KPIs and KRI decks for senior management.

    Job Description

    • Working knowledge of BDA Trail Balance and Control Accounts to produce supporting documentation for the global regional balance sheet substantiation teams, ensuring that the monthly Balance Sheet reconciliation and proofing process runs smoothly within strict and short deadlines for accounts under control.
    • Liaising with local and offshore operations teams and finance in clearing intercompany and inter-system breaks, within tight ageing thresholds.
    • Liaise with Auditors (external and Internal) and deal with operational audit queries eg. Substantiation of trading positions unsettled open positions balances and failed trades.
    • Produce accurate, timely and relevant operational reports and metrics for the Business and the regional MIS team.
    • Provide detailed analysis of escalated issues when necessary and recommend actions for resolution
    • Contribute to processing standards and expectations for securities and derivatives processing teams.
    • Develop and implement business plans, policies, and procedures that offer solutions and cost saving opportunities
    • Manage daily performance related to securities and derivatives post-settlement activities of operations processes
    • Propose solutions to implement financial and reconciliation process improvements or overall technology enhancements
    • Coordinate with internal partners and service providers to ensure appropriate support is received and identify areas for improvement
    • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

    Departments Key Responsibilities :

    Cash Management

    • Support the cash management (cash flow forecasting) and bank reconciliations
    • Cash Collateral management with Lenders
    • JSE and CGML Margin Calculations and Reporting
    • E-Forex Payments to CGML for Collateral & Margins
    • Placing or recalling funds from Treasury

    Stock Borrowing

    • Stock Borrowing management on SLAMS – Loans, Returns, Lodging and recalling and collateral recall or placing.
    • Reconciling and posting monthly Fees and Interest

    Derivatives

    • BDA vs GMI Reconciliation
    • Instructing CGMI Team in Belfast of daily movements
    • Investigations of un-reconciled items

    PRIMO Recon and Risk Reporting (Stock Scan)

    • Downloading PRIMO Reconciliation from NEOX
    • Swing trades as per Instructions from PRIMO Report on BDA
    • Ensure BDA Stock Accounts are in balance with PRIMO Report after adjustments.
    • Produce Risk Report and report to Traders for Stock Borrowing process

    Trade Support

    • Support the rotational flexi time roster to support the business and its clients with trade allocations and confirmations.
    • Trade Support, allocations, confirmations, matching effectively utilizing 3rd party vendor systems (BDA, NEOX, OMGEO CTM, Perfix)
    • Equity settlements – trade monitoring and Correction of erroneous trades

    Other Functions

    • Client Account Management on BDA – loading and amendments to account details.
    • Record Retention – ensure all department records are printed, signed, and achieved for audit trail.
    • Sanction Screening – unloading items for screening into system and reporting any potential hits

    Skills and Competencies:

    • Must have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work with people from different teams and geographical locations.
    • Root cause analysis.
    • Analytical & well organized - able to multi-task effectively and work well under pressure.
    • Ability to identify and resolve problems quickly
    • Diligent, conscientious, self-starter
    • Proactive, dynamic, creative, and able to provide practical solutions

    Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications :

    • Education: Matric minimum,
    • 7+ years of relevant and recent experience in an institutional stockbroker, with knowledge of JSE BDA system, JSE Rules & Directives.
    • Extensive Excel working knowledge essential
    • Working knowledge of SLB – SLAMS System
    • Equity Derivatives (OTC and SAFEX) knowledge advantage.
    • Working knowledge of Corporate Actions process
    • JSE Settlement Officer Exam, ACI, UJ Markets or equivalent Operations qualification an advantage. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree/University degree In Accounting /Finance
