    Security Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa

    ROLE PURPOSE

    International SOS is the world’s leading medical & security services company. Our global services include medical and risk planning, preventative programs, in-country expertise and emergency response for travelers, expatriates and their dependents of over 70 percent of the Fortune 500 companies.

    The Security Manager Sub Saharan (SSA) will drive the Security Services business development to the International SOS distribution channels in order to drive customer satisfaction and profitable growth in Sub Saharan Africa. The Johannesburg-based security expert, driving the development of our unique provider network, including information sources, in order to support the delivery of best-in-class analysis, advice and assistance. Supporting our global client base, with a specific focus on clients, with business operations in Sub Saharan and regional operation into Africa.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Support Business Development

    • Support the growth of the security services business in the Sub Saharan Africa, through a focus on quality of service and support to International SOS sales and marketing efforts:
    • Manage security sales pipeline in conjunction with the sales teams
    • Major focus on driving the growth of security services business as a key strategic agenda
    • Contribute to Sales team efforts to win significant new business and renewal opportunities
    • Provide local market, customer and competitor insight, particularly on Security Managed Services and DTRM
    • Support sales team in all sales related activities such as client meetings, media events, outreach events, such as the TRO and other related events

    Security Operations

    • Maintain and extend provider network within region
    • Contribute to the provision of high-quality written and verbal travel risk management advice and assistance, in line with agreed service delivery standards
    • Supervise the Dubai Regional Security Centre (RSC) security operation in accordance with the roster
    • Participate in the On Call roster for Dubai RSC and Dubai Security Desk as required
    • Oversee maintenance of destination guides as directed

    Client Support, Consulting and Training

    • Ensure customer feedback is captured through the appropriate channels
    • Support to the onboarding of new clients
    • Manage the delivery of Personal Travel Security Awareness Training sessions to clients personally, virtually or through approved external consultants
    • Oversee the localisation of new solutions
    • Provide feedback via the quality system on any Training (and Consulting) delivery within the region as per performance indicators

    Escalation Management and Support

    • During major escalations, and supporting the lead Regional Security Centre and Client Liaison Group (when activated), lead outreach to clients with information based on the approved Party Line / Client Brief
    • As required, travel to support Regional Security Centres’ situational awareness, assess/develop local provider capabilities and expanding the existing network of contacts
    • As required, be prepared to deploy at short notice as part of an Incident Management Team, primarily in EMEA, but potentially globally

    Leadership and Management

    • Contribute to the maintenance of succession plans for Security Services EMEA roles through professional and personal networks
    • Identify internal and external talent for the EMEA Regional Security Centres

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the security industry, preferably within: 
    • security operations management: in military, government (officer or senior NGO), or private sector roles; or any other security structures
    • Strong knowledge of the global travel security environment and international relations
    • Thorough understanding of the political and security landscape of Sub Saharan Africa and Africa as a region
    • Business development related experience
    • Training and/ or consultancy delivery experience
    • Crisis management and/ or business resilience experience

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Undergraduate degree / Diploma (or relevant professional training) in a field related to security or international relations studies
    • Accredited as a Certified Security Professional by relevant industry body
    • Post-graduate degree (or relevant professional training) in a field related to security or international relations studies an advantage

    LANGUAGES:

    • Excellent English (spoken and written)
    • French/Portuguese advantageous
    • Additional Sub Saharan/African language proficiency an advantage
