    Senior Lecturer: (Astronomy)

    The Department of Astronomy is seeking to fill a permanent academic (teaching and research) position at the rank of
    Senior Lecturer. We seek to strengthen our present and future research activities in the fields of Extragalactic Multiwavelength Astronomy and Data Visualization.

    The successful candidate will be expected to further strengthen and complement the extragalactic and visualization research
    in the Department of Astronomy, to strongly contribute to the management and development of the Visualization Lab, and
    to lead and conduct their own research programme. The successful candidate will have access to MeerKAT through Open
    Time calls, collaborative programs within existing MeerKAT large survey projects, the South African share on SALT, and
    telescopes of the SAAO.

    Requirements for the job:

    •  A PhD in astronomy or related discipline;
    •  Lecturing experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
    •  A research track record that demonstrates recognition, experience, productivity and creativity in Extragalactic MultiWavelength Astronomy and Data Visualization;
    •  Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Honours, MSc and/or PhD level;
    •  Experience in departmental-level administration (or equivalent).

    Responsibilities:

    •  Contribute strongly to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses;
    •  Develop own research programme with appropriate training and supervision of postgraduate students;
    •  Contribute to the well-being of the department;
    •  Contribute to Departmental and Faculty-level administration.
