    Senior Lecturer: Palliative Medicine

    UCT Division of Interdisciplinary Palliative Care and Medicine (IPCM) seeks to appoint a senior lecturer who is
    experienced and knowledgeable in palliative care to convene the M.Phil in Palliative Medicine. The main purpose of this
    position is to provide postgraduate research support and to assist clinical training across the division. The position is for
    20 hours a week and does require face-to-face teaching. The division supports the development of the discipline within
    the context of South Africa, the African continent and internationally.

    Requirements:

    •  Hold an MBChB (or equivalent MD).
    •  A M.Phil or Masters degree in Palliative Care/Medicine.
    •  Minimum of 3 years’ experience in palliative care.
    •  Demonstrable research supervision experience at postgraduate level.

    DSI/NRF South African Research Chair (SARCHI) Professor: Modelling of Coupled Ocean-Land Atmosphere Phenomena Related to Climate

    The DSI/NRF South African Research Chair initiative is a highly prestigious programme that offers substantial funding
    and a base on which to consolidate and extend excellence in research. In addition, the Chair also provides an
    opportunity to collaborate with the research activities and supervise postgraduate students who are registered
    through the Nansen Tutu Centre for Marine Environmental Research. The Department of Oceanography has well
    developed computing facilities (including access to the Centre for High Performance Computing), a
    marine biogeochemistry laboratory, and access to ship time for research cruises in the South Atlantic, South Indian
    and Southern Oceans.
    The funding for the research chair includes support for postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows on top of a
    salary contribution and substantial allowance towards project running expenses and travel. The department will
    provide necessary administrative support. The incumbent will be expected to attract additional funding to grow
    and enhance the research teams operational and research capacity. Conditions of the SARChi award does not permit
    the incumbent to spend more than 20% of their time on undergraduate teaching and/or management responsibilities
    not related to activities of the Research Chair.

    Requirements for the job:

    Lecturer (NGAP POST)

    The Department of Pathology’s Division of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology would like to invite applicants who
    have a particular interest in teaching, curriculum development, and student development and support to apply for
    this full-time, permanent lecturer post. In addition to clinical educator duties, the incumbent will be required to
    pursue further studies at a doctorate level to enhance education and scholarship in this discipline and health
    sciences in general.

    This Lecturer position will be appointed under the auspices of the New Generation of Academics Programme
    (nGAP) funded by the Department of Higher Education & Training. This full-time permanent position is open to
    South Africans, and priority will be accorded to those aged 40 years or younger. The appointment will be made in
    terms of the purposes expressed in the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF). For more

    Requirements for the job:

    •  MBCHB degree
    •  Demonstrated experience/interest in the field of forensic medicine.

    Responsibilities:

    •  Appropriately manage logistical requirements of forensic undergraduate courses. This will involve the coordination of lecturers, administrative staff, timetables, and venue bookings for these courses.
    •  As course convener need to adhere to all the requirements of the MBChB programme, including attendance of meetings as required.
    •  Plan, develop and align forensic course to curriculum including alignment of the learning outcomes, course content, activities, and assessment practices with institutional policies and international educational standards and evidence.
    •  Manage the overall course within the aligned blueprint.
    •  Co-ordinate the entire process related to assessment activities, timeous feedback, moderation and involvement with institutional requirements related to this in the MBChB curriculum such as attending FEC meetings.

    Senior Lecturer: (Astronomy)

    The Department of Astronomy is seeking to fill a permanent academic (teaching and research) position at the rank of
    Senior Lecturer. We seek to strengthen our present and future research activities in the fields of Extragalactic Multiwavelength Astronomy and Data Visualization.

    The successful candidate will be expected to further strengthen and complement the extragalactic and visualization research
    in the Department of Astronomy, to strongly contribute to the management and development of the Visualization Lab, and
    to lead and conduct their own research programme. The successful candidate will have access to MeerKAT through Open
    Time calls, collaborative programs within existing MeerKAT large survey projects, the South African share on SALT, and
    telescopes of the SAAO.

    Requirements for the job:

    •  A PhD in astronomy or related discipline;

    Senior Lecturer: Finance

    The Department of Finance and Tax, a department within UCT’s Faculty of Commerce, invites applications for
    permanent full-time position at the level of Senior Lecturer for appointment at the start of 2024. The primary

    SAP Senior or Specialist Developer

    Are you dynamic, motivated and passionate about providing high-quality developments and enhancements to ERP systems? The
    Systems Division (SD), a section of the Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department, is looking for a
    senior or specialist developer to join the SAP team. SD is responsible for operations, performance and support for the university’s
    administrative systems, covering student, financial, research and human resource administration and is focused on ensuring that

    The Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) requires X6 fieldworkers to support our Principal
    Investigator (PI) and affiliates for two health systems implementation research studies:
    1) The project entitled “Development and evaluation of a targeted, integrated, coherent
    and people-centered approach to the management of Multiple Long-Term Conditions
    (MLTC-M) in South African primaryhealthcare (ENHANCE).” It aims to improve the care,
    treatment and support systems for people living with MLTC-M in South Africa; ii)
    “Strengthening the quality of adolescent primary healthcare in South Africa: preliminary
    work on a complex public health intervention that aims to develop a system strengthening
    intervention to be piloted and evaluated across clinics and schools.
    The main purpose of this position is to retain and recruit study participants as set out in
    the recruitment and retention programme for the ENHANCE Project.

    Requirements:

    •   Grade 12
    •   1 years’ relevant experience in conducting fieldwork for other research projects or other public health research and relevant experience in working in target communities.
    •   Experience conducting qualitative interviews with research participants and completing data collection questionnaires.
    •   Ability to communicate in English/ isiXhosa / Afrikaans.
    •   Motivated to have direct interaction with patients.
