Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Education: Science & Technology Education) at University of Johannesburg

Job Description: 

• The Faculty of Education is in the process of establishing a Centre for Advanced Leaming Technologies in Science Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (CALTSTEAM). 
• The Faculty invites applications for the academic post of Senior Lecturer in CALTSTEAM and Science Education. We seek an individual with excellent academic credentials in teaching and research in this field. 

Responsibilities: 

• Involvement in research in the Centre and limited teaching in Science Education (contact, blended and online) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Playing a leading role in online teaching innovation
• Supervision of student research at Master's and Doctoral level 
• Involvement in national and international research projects
• Procurement of funding for research
• Involvement in core activities of the Centre such as academic administration, research, short-course development, marketing, and community projects

Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer:

• A doctoral degree in Science Education
• At least 5 years teaching experience in Science at school level and/or any related field in teacher education at the tertiary level 
• A track record of exemplary teaching (oniine teaching recommended)
• A research footprint (presenting in local conferences/research forums) in Advanced Leaming Technologies such as virtual and augmented reality

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

• Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
• Good planning and organisational skills
• Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues
• Well-developed scholarship of teaching and learning
• Adept at teaching and development of materials for online education

Recommendations:

• A defined research trajectory in advanced learning technologies in science education that has resulted in good quality peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals 
• Collaboration with leading scholars in science education and advanced learning technologies 
• Teaching experience in science at school level and/or in the teacher education field at the tertiary level
