    Senior Lecturer (Faculty of Humanities: Department of Social Work and Community Development)

    Job purpose:

    • To teach Community Development at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels within the ambit of the Department of Social Work and Community Development.

    Responsibilities 

    Teaching & Learning:

    • Lecture Community Development subjects on the Bachelor, Honours and Masters programmes.
    • Facilitate Community Development internship classes.

    Research:

    • Conduct own research and publish articles in accredited journals.

    Supervision:

    • Supervise Postgraduate students (Masters coursework, Masters by research and PhD).

    Community Engagement:

    • Be involved in community engagement.

    Administration:

    • Share in academic and administrative tasks commensurate with academic level.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Doctoral degree in Community Development and/or Social Work.
    • Three (3) post qualifying experience of Community Development practice.
    • Three (3) years’ teaching, supervision, and assessment in higher education, together with a clear teaching philosophy and evidence or examples of how this philosophy is implemented in practice.
    • At least two (2) DoHET publication units with a focus on Community development theory and processes.
    • Research methods.

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Interpersonal and leadership.
    • Teaching and other academic skills.
    • Computer competencies.
    • Administration.
    • Supervision.
