    SHE Snr Occ Health Hygiene

    Purpose of Job

    • To be involved in environmental health and safety processes and prevention activities and audits to achieve zero harm environment.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Plan and manage the supply of ventilation to the required underground areas.
    • Manage the measurement and reporting of Occupational Hygiene related monitoring requirements.
    • Measure, assess and report on matters relating Fire and Explosion prevention and Emergency preparedness.
    • Report to Management on compliance to standards.
    • Manage subordinates to ensure compliance to Service Level agreement.

    Additional Advantages

    • Experience in specifically an Underground coal mine on Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene.
    • Any qualification related to Occupational Hygiene (additional to the Intermediate Certificate).

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    • Facilitate ad hoc risk assessment studies using an appropriate selection of basic intermediate & advanced methodologies which includes HAZOP, Process Hazard Review (PHR) & (LOC), FMEA, Human Factors, Risk Ranking, explosion studies, LOPA, QRA, facility citing studies & consequence assessments. 
    • Facilitate incident investigations process & assist in the compilation of incident reports, lessons learned next steps. 
    • Communicate PHA report & findings to management. Assist management in the resulting decision-making process & formal response to recommendations. 
    • Advise operations on establishing & maintaining operating procedures as effective risk controls for activities. 
    • Provide a consultation service to operations on the technical aspects
    • Advise where applicable on Safety Case Technique information to support regulatory permitting & authorizations. 
    • Analyse trends & provide workable solutions to operations management for implementation. 
    • Advise & support on solutions which contributes to business results & improved competitiveness 
    • Contribute to the establishment & reviewing of site wide PSM related systems across multi-operating sites. 
    • Provide input in the design, development & maintenance of the process safety management system. 
    • Develop & maintain plant specific process safety procedures (where applicable) by interpreting Sasol process safety standards, procedures, specifications & guideline. 
    • Drive Operational hub process safety initiatives. 
    • Analyse Major Hazard Installation (MHI) as per regulations & ensure compliance to the standards by the operational hubs. 
    • Advise on land use/ spatial planning for operational areas based on the relevant studies
    • Facilitate/ participate in PSSR reviews of various complexities. 
    • Identify potential process & asset features that could escalate emergency events into major incidents 
    • Carry out Process Safety stand-by duties and co-ordinate external risk assessment studies
    • Utilize consequence modelling & probability analysis (fault tree / Event tree) to develop solutions. 
    • Evaluate & give assurance regarding the quality of risk studies conducted by PSM Specialists & Practitioners 
    • Assess quality cost-effective solutions during risk assessments to ensure optimum risk design within acceptable risk parameters. 
    • Support & monitor the identification process of process safety critical equipment for preventative maintenance purposes & ensure that corrective actions are implemented 
    • Utilize a FER-SI tool to derive fire, explosion & toxic index 
    • Plan & meet project management objectives in technical, professional & expert areas of work 
    • Develop & maintain plant related checklists. 
    • Research, propose & assist in the implementation of fit for purpose solutions to meet changing business & work requirements 
    • Gather & analyse data on risk-based analysis, & advise management on high process safety risks through safety Improvement plan (SIP). Gather & analyse data from observation, audits, incidents etc. for themes. 
    • Compile incident reports, including actions & lessons learned
    • Conduct awareness training of team members on the specific methodologies to be used for the specific risk study. 
    • Participate in the development & maintenance of career paths by, for example, providing shadowing opportunities, assisting in an individuals growth & monitoring progress. 
    • Liaise with accredited engineering facilities

    Formal Education

    • University Bachelors Degree

    Min Experience

    • Experience: 4+ relevant years
