    Shift Foreman

    Job Profile:

    • To support the Production Manager to manufacture the assigned specialty chemicals, according to client requirements, while ensuring compliance with the various quality and safety standards. 

    Key Performance Areas

     Plant Operations/Manufacturing:

    • Operate the plant in line with approved work instructions, guidelines and procedures.
    • Monitor process trends and SPC data to ensure the production process is within operating parameters and correct if required.
    • Allocate and manage resources and coordinate activities to meet production schedules.
    • Monitor process trends and SPC data to ensure the production process is within operating parameters.
    • Ensure staff operate the plant according to approved work instructions.
    • Monitor the effective usage of utilities

    Monitor stock levels to ensure that the inventory is kept up to date and suitable for meeting production targets and goals as agreed on.

    2. Financial management and Budgeting

    • Submit annual budget and obtain approval.
    • Apply appropriate financial controls to ensure expenditure levels are prudent, and wastage is limited.

    3. Plant Control:

    • Ensure at least one job observation on work instructions are done monthly.
    • Review and update work instructions.
    • Generate operations report per shift worked and communicate effectively to relevant parties. Plant readings and checklist as required.
    • Report all defects to the necessary discipline using the COSWIN system and prescribed documentation.

     Compliance with SHEQ requirements

    • Ensure hazardous work permits are in place as required in the work place.
    • Ensure PPE is in a good condition and correctly worn in the workplace.
    • Execute PPE inspections according to procedure monthly.
    • Ensure specialized PPE are stored according to requirements
    • Report sub-standard equipment and safety issues.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    KEY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    • Knowledge of chemical processes
    • Knowledge of investigation methods
    • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Knowledge of  ISO 9000 quality standard
    • Basic understanding of mass balance
    • Computer literacy
    • Knowledge of  ISO 14000 Environmental standard

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Grade 12 - Maths (50%) and Physical Science (60%)

    OR

    • N3 with maths (50%) and Physical Science (60%)

    OR

    • NCV Level 4 Maths (50%) and Physical Science (60%)
    • Driver’s licence.
    • 8-10 years experience in a 24-hour chemical plant operations would be an advantage for this position.
