    Job Description

    We are currently seeking to employ a qualified candidate for the position of Solar Engineer (or the “Candidate”) for Technical Services under Renewables, Energy Systems to be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

    As part of DNV’s Renewables in Cape Town and the Solar department in the SEMELA region, the Candidate will work along with other technical professionals in the Energy Systems group to provide technical consulting services. The Candidate will have the opportunity to learn technical aspects of the solar PV plants by being involved in various projects, performing Energy Production Assessments, site visits, feasibility studies, contractual terms review, tender process preparation and management, construction and operation monitoring. The role also has elements of business development, marketing and sales supporting responsibilities. This includes working cohesively within the department to establish long-term customer relationships, keeping abreast of industry needs and trends, as well as participation in industry events to ensure that DNV's service offerings are well-known and well-respected in the power industry.

    This role is based in Cape Town and to report to the Solar Middle East & Africa Team Lead based in Dubai. You will focus on supporting our technical team in delivering our services to our existing customers and seeking out new opportunities in the Sub-Saharan African region. It is also expected that the candidate will cooperate closely with the experienced Consultants and Specialists from other teams in the SEMELA region and globally to leverage the company’s global networks to build the energy advisory business and optimize quality project delivery within Sub-Saharan Africa.

    Position Qualifications

    • Master / Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Mathematical, Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university. Electrical is is preferable.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience working in the solar PV industry and or Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the renewables industry
    • Familiarity with energy industry technology (modules, inverters, mounting system, balance of system, etc)
    • Project management and time management skills, including an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines and to establish and maintain good relations with clients.
    • Previous experience in technical advisory, consultancy and / or Technical Due Diligence is a plus
    • Excellent command of the English language
    • Proficiency in at least one of additional language – Africans, French is preferable.
    • Good quantitative and analytical skills.
    • Fluent in MS Office products.
    • Good command of verbal and written communication skills, good presentation skills, a positive attitude, an open mindset and a team-oriented individual.
