    Workshop Foreman

    Job Description

    • Our client is looking for an experienced, hands-on Workshop Foreman to take responsibility for the day-to-day technical oversight and coordination of a busy fleet workshop.
    • This is a practical role suited to a qualified and experienced Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician who has progressed into a supervisory position but still enjoys being on the workshop floor and getting involved when required.
    • The successful candidate will lead and support a team of diesel mechanics and auto electricians, ensuring that maintenance, repairs, fault finding and preventative maintenance are completed safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard.
    • This is not an office-based management role. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, leads by example and is prepared to get their hands dirty when the situation requires it.

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • A recognised Diesel Mechanic / Motor Mechanic trade qualification.
    • Trade Test Certificate as a Diesel Mechanic or equivalent recognised South African qualification.
    • At least 5 years' relevant post-trade experience, preferably within a heavy vehicle, fleet or transport workshop environment.
    • Supervisory or team leadership experience - previous experience in a Workshop Foreman, Senior Technician or similar supervisory role.
    • Proven experience working on heavy commercial vehicles/trucks.
    • Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities.
    • Experience managing or coordinating a team of technicians.
    • Good understanding of preventative maintenance and workshop planning.
    • A valid South African driver's licence appropriate to the role.
    • Computer literacy and the ability to complete workshop reports and maintenance records.

    Advantageous Experience

    • Preference will be given to candidates with:
    • Experience working specifically on Volvo and MAN trucks.
    • Hydraulic maintenance and fault-finding experience.
    • Experience with truck-mounted cranes.
    • Auto-electrical knowledge or experience working closely with auto electricians.
    • Experience within a large fleet, logistics, transport, construction or related environment.
    • Experience using electronic diagnostic and vehicle management systems.
    • Supervisory or team leadership experience.
