    Accountant

    The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for effective utilities management and maintaining proper financial records in compliance with applicable accounting standards within the Department.

    • General Duties

    Overall, you will:

    • Check, allocate and sign off divisions documents (debtor and creditor invoices, etc.) ensuring that documentation is in compliance with: company BEE/Procurement policy, and that general ledger allocation and VAT treatment are correct.
    • Review petty cash statements and reconciliations from all divisions
    • Perform analytical reviews of data to ensure completeness, accuracy and validity of billing received from vendors. Investigate all inconsistencies and raise accruals to account for temporary variations
    • Attend to project related utilities, including rates clearance and project closure
    • Ensure annual rates rebates submissions are made and received from the City of Cape Town.
    • Review and manage objections in terms of the property valuations received from The City of Cape Town
    • Maintain Masterfile of utilities accounts per utility vendors and Communicare and update regularly to take into account additions, amendments or disposals of property
    • Coordinate queries with vendors and maintain any applicable relationships
    • Ensure that files are ready for review in time for auditors.
    • Attend to queries by internal and external auditors as and when required.
    • Ensure that general ledger transactions are recorded in MDA in line with SA Income Tax Act requirements
    • Prepare annual tax computation and related supporting schedules
    • Review company policies as they relate to the finance department and motivate any amendments if necessary.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Relevant tertiary qualification (BCom)
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in a similar role.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
