Overview:
As a Junior Analyst the candidate will be responsible for delivering research and assisting Senior Analysts in providing specialized solution services to clients mostly across EMEA and APAC on Corporate Governance and M&A topics to support companies strategy.
S&P Global’s Strategic Corporate Governance and M&A Advisory Team helps corporate issuers, predominantly their management, supervisory board, investor relations and corporate secretary teams, on public takeovers, general meetings as well as ESG-related topics. The candidate will ideally understand the impact of corporate governance and ESG factors on investment management and voting.
Responsibilities:
The position of a Junior Analyst is a multifaceted one which requires verbal communications skills, writing skills, research skills, analytical abilities, and financial acumen. This also includes being proficient with Microsoft office tools such as Excel and PowerPoint and being used to working with databases. S&P Global provides hands-on training in an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and emphasizes client service. The candidate will ideally possess a comprehensive understanding of the Financial Markets, Securities Trading and Shareholder Meetings, especially their preparation.
The candidate will be familiar with how Proxy Advisers work and how their recommendations can impact vote outcome.
The candidate will work in the team of the regional director who s/he reports to and supports with research and reports. The candidate will work closely with other team members within Issuer Solutions in our global offices to support Senior Analysts/project leads and to help ensure quality services to clients.
The desired candidate will:
- Support project leads with clients' corporate governance research and shareholder communication campaigns in relation to AGMs, EGMs, M&A and other corporate action type events.
- Drafting bespoke research reports for clients which will require research and analysis of shareholder meeting agenda items.
- Undertake engagement (via calls/emails) with institutional shareholders to discuss AGMs/EGMs to solicit intentions on meeting agenda or transactional sentiment.
- Develop an understanding of proxy voting mechanics and corporate governance standards across multiple regions.
- Maintain several databases containing contact information and proprietary data (including data research, -collection and quality checks).
- Survey institutional shareholders to collect research data to write an annual report which discusses trends in ESG and proxy voting.
What we’re looking for:
- University degree required.
- Advanced level in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi and familiar with handling and structuring large amount of data. Any additional skills in the field of data analysis (i.e. writing macros - VBA) are a plus.
- A prior corporate governance related work experience of 1-2 years.
- Excellent attention to detail, efficient workload management and strict commitment to deadlines.
- Strong analytical and interpretation skills.
- Fluent in English and optional German, French, Mandarin.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute on a plan to increase adoption of S&P Global ESG/Climate solutions across the region.
- Collaborate with S&P Global divisions, Market Intelligence, Index, Ratings, Commodity Insights, Mobility, to deliver excellent client service and strong growth in sustainability solutions.
- Develop and maintain Strategic Account Sustainability Plans, which are designed to summarize priority opportunities emerging from the evolving ESG/Climate context, client priorities and the portfolio of S&P Global sustainability solutions.
- Represent the business at client meetings, effectively diagnosing their needs and conveying our value proposition, assisting with the integration of ESG/Climate data and research in their processes, support them in use of ESG/Climate data, tools, reports and indices, by answering technical questions.
- Organise and represent S&P Global Sustainable1 at events, webinars and conferences, helping raise the visibility of S&P Global's industry leading Sustainability solutions
- Educate internal teams and clients on the benefits of disclosure and integration of sustainability solutions in their processes, answer technical questions on ESG/Climate data and reports, sustainability indices, ratings and energy transition solutions.
- Work with our marketing team to create and deliver regionally relevant thought leadership (white papers, speaking at events and presentations).
- Write proposals; plan and prepare presentations
Basic Qualifications:
- Extensive work experience
- Understanding of ESG and the local and global sustainability trends, industry, industry groups, and regulation
- Technical knowledge of ESG factors, such as Carbon Emissions, Physical Risk, ESG Scores
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups and at public forums
- Ability to write compelling, articulate proposals for innovative solutions.
- Excellent business acumen, good negotiation skills and persuasiveness
- Personable, and enjoy networking and meeting new people
- Self-motivated, self-starter and results oriented, with a positive, "can do" attitude
- An insatiable appetite to learn product methodologies and the willingness to be a subject matter expert on key solutions

Preferred Qualifications:
- Understand how financial markets operate, with experience in banking.
- Understand how financial institutions evaluate and incorporate ESG and climate issues in their decision-making and the organizations involved (e.g. NGFS, PCAF, TCFD, UNPRI)
- Understand some of the following: portfolio carbon foot printing and accounting across asset classes, ESG risk and opportunity analysis by investors, TCFD reporting, use of environmental data for financial products (funds and indices), sustainability solutions for banking clients, green bonds.
- Experience working on or servicing a responsible investment/ESG or sustainability team
- Experience speaking and presenting to large groups of people and executive audiences
- Ability to travel extensively to offsite meetings
