Position Synopsis

We are in process of establishing a pool of talented people to work at our Smelter in Richards Bay.

Requirements

• Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science;
• Previous experience in mining and/or heavy industry experience will be advantageous;
• A valid driver’s License is essential.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work with physical assets, plant and equipment as defined by the Operation’s standards and operating procedures;
• Understand the purpose and functionality of critical controls relevant to work tasks of the Production Execution sub-function and work to the prescribed performance standards and controls;
• Execute the production and/or logistics activities according to the Schedule and only where competent to do so;
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all events and hazards.

Position Synopsis

To execute the relevant portion of the business plan for the Operation in such a manner that all aspects of the budget for which he is responsible are achieved in a sustainable manner with the key focus of delivering on financial and operational targets through the application of strict operating discipline. This should be underpinned by an unwavering commitment to the companies’ values, specifically those around Zero Harm.

Requirements

• Serious contenders will have a Degree in Mining Engineering with a minimum of 6 years’ in depth experience in Mining & Production of which at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity;
• 8 years of line management experience is essential;
• Knowledge and experience in organisational improvement is essential;
• In-depth knowledge of Processing with specific experience in related process technology employed is essential;
• Sound knowledge and understanding of legislation is essential;
• Experience in the coal mining industry is essential;
• Previous experience within BHPB w.r.t. CAP will be an added advantage.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Execute the 5 year plan on HSE, Volumes and Cost;
• Ensure adequate governance of all operational activities such as to achieve Operational Discipline;
• Ensure that equipment and infrastructure are exploited to their maximum potential in order to deliver against the 2 year budget;
• Ensure that all activities on the Operation are carried out in line with the South32 strategy and the South32 values;
• Deliver the outcomes of the 2 year budget in line with the agreed business plan.

Health, Safety and Environmental compliance and monitoring.

Requirements

• Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in Safety Management with 5 years’ experience in health and safety in the mining industry;
• Experience with internal and external stakeholders is essential;
• Experience in facilitating of risk assessments is essential;
• Experience with the conducting of general HSE audits is essential;
• Experience in the ICAM methodology of accident investigation is essential;
• A valid driver's license (Code 8 minimum) is essential.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Review and endorse HSE related content in the
• Contractor quality control plans;
• Monitor existence of medical examinations of all contractor employees;
• Monitors completion of general site and plant specific induction of all contractor employees;
• Monitor the establishment of site HSE requirements;
• Monitor the existence and content of work permits between the Operation and the contractor;
• Conduct and facilitate risk assessments; Conduct general HSE audits on site;
• Monitor implementation of South32 and Regional HSE related standards at the OperatiE);
• Monitor compliance to legal requirements; Responsible for timeous and accurate HSE reporting to relevant internal stakeholders and external authorities.
