    Reinsurance Controller

    What will you do?
    A position for a Reinsurance Controller exists in the Corporate Services Finance team, based in Santam Auckland Park.

    What will you do?

    • To provide financial support to Reinsurance Buying Department.
    • Be the source of financial information and the link between the various business partners and Santam.
    • Actively participating in the daily functions and various reporting needs both internally & externally. 

    Principle Accountabilities Include: 

    • Financial performance reporting
    • Financial reports for the fronting, inter group/inter SBU transactions.
    • Compiling of Financial Performance Reports for Stakeholders.
    • Statutory Reporting
    • External audit reporting 
    • Review and approve technical accounts and payments to ensure the completeness of transactions to RI brokers/reinsurers.
    • Assisting with the implementation of IFRS and Reinsurance Optimization Projects.
    • Validation and control function of monthly reconciliations.
    • Verify variances of underwriting results against budgets.
    • Management of Reinsurance Contracts

    Qualification and Experience

    • Accounting or Reinsurance Qualification (Minimum 3 year Degree).
    • Minimum of 5 years in similar financial role

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Reinsurance knowledge - understanding reinsurance terminology and interpretation  of  contracts. 
    • Excellent communication both verbal and written
    • MS Office with advanced Excel skills
    • Credit control and reconciliation experience
    • Processing of financial transactions up to balance sheet

    Employee Relations Consultant

    What will you do?

    • An exciting position of Employee Relations Consultant exists in Santam. This role may be based at Head Office Tygervalley or Alice Lane Sandton and reports directly to the Head, Employee Relations & HR Governance.
    • Provide expert Employee Relations advice and partnership to the HRBP team and business by implementing, maintaining and evaluating employee relations policies and practices in promoting sound business labour relations for the Santam group.

    What will make you successful in this role?

    Provide sound Employee Relations

    • Provide a consultancy and advisory service to HR and Line managers on employee relations matters, including any aspect of employment law or policy that impacts the employment relationship
    • Identify, communicate and mitigate legal, financial and reputational risk to Santam by ensuring fair outcomes
    • Formulate policies, procedures and practices aligned to labour legislation, court precedents, collective agreements as required
    • Management of collective bargaining with the Union/s on behalf of the Company to ensure effective negotiation and consultation on employee relations matters
    • Analysis of employee data to assess ER trends and reporting and providing feedback to the HR leadership and Santam Senior Management team
    • Representing Santam at external dispute resolution forums (eg. CCMA) on individual and collective ER matters
    • Ensure advice provided to HRBP team and line managers are in line with agreed SLA
    • Facilitate the up skilling of HRBP’s and other key stakeholders on latest employee relations and legislative changes
    • Communicate and implement the latest SA Labour legislation ensuring compliance by all stakeholders

    Employee Relations Reporting

    • Implement and maintain a comprehensive ER administration system
    • Maintain an electronic library of all Santam employee relations cases for referral

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Build and maintain effective relationships with HRBP team, Santam management, trade union and external partners
    • Ensure that stakeholders are supported in their communication, consultation and negotiations including managerial staff restructuring and redundancy processes
    • Manage ad hoc projects that are aligned to the annual priorities and HR strategy

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (HRM or Labour Law)
    • Post graduate degree in Human resources (Employee relations majors)
    • Admitted attorney specialising in Employment Law

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Knowledge of all applicable labour legislation in South Africa
    • At least 5 years’ experience and knowledge of Employee Relations (including CCMA rules, processes and cases)
    • Experience in engaging with key business and external partners across all levels (including senior levels)
    • Project management experience
    • Ability to travel regularly.
