    Government and Stakeholder Relations Manager - Sandton

    Type of Position:    

    To ensure that the key strategic objectives of the company are met through developing government affairs strategies and action plans that support and advance the company’s position and operations at local, provincial, and national level.

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    • Develop strategy and stakeholder engagement plan to establish and maintain close ethical relationships with key players in various national, provincial and municipal government departments to support and advance VWSA’s operations and to mitigate business risk.
    • Work with internal leadership to identify priority Government Relations issues for the company.
    • Develop and implement a strategy and action plan to engage with relevant government officials to resolve key business and operational risks.
    • Monitor legislation, policy and political activities and events and advise company leadership of relevant policy and political proposals and event actions.
    • Prepare detailed quarterly status reports for BOM and the Social Ethics Committee (SEC) and on request. 
    • Understand, communicate and advocate company priorities to government officials and government entities on key legislative and operational issues.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience    

    • Must have a Tertiary qualification in Business/ Political Science/ Social Sciences/ Economics/ Law
    • Must have a minimum of 7 Years working in a Government Relations/ Public Affairs/ External Affairs/ Regulatory Affairs.
    • Automotive industry knowledge or exposure.
    • Must have at least 5 years at Supervisory Level

    Skills, Attributes & Other requirements    

    EESENTIAL:

    • Relevant Postgraduate qualification will be advantageous.
    • Must have the ability to translate ideas & concepts into practical output.
    • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
    • Good planning and organisational skills.
    • Must have Technical knowledge of government affairs.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Must have the ability to work collaboratively.

    Job Description and Responsibilities    

    • The identification and development of local and import parts and tooling in order to meet project requirements.
    • Establish benchmark pricing and perform value analysis to ensure competitiveness.
    • Conduct quotes and sourcing activities via various purchasing systems and prepare and present recommendations for managerial decision-making purposes.
    • Seek and develop new supply sources, nationally and internationally.
    • Negotiate supplier price adjustments.
    • Negotiate and maintain commercial contracts with suppliers.
    • Perform capacity planning to ensure supplier tooling and facilities can adequately support VW production requirements.
    • Incorporate engineering changes or quality improvements into existing components.
    • Identify local sources of supply for potential export components to the VW Group.
    • Prime project management accountability for ensuring components are approved by Engineering or Quality and introduced into production or exported.

    Education and Experience    

    • Have a recognized university Diploma / Degree in the following disciplines – Purchasing, Logistics, Commerce, Finance, Business Management or a technical qualification (Polymer, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Quality, Operations or Production Management).
    • Have a minimum of 3 years purchasing experience in the automotive or supplier industry.
    • Experience with Production Components would be an added advantage.

    Skills, Attributes & Other requirements    

    • Possess negotiation and problem-solving skills.
    • Have the ability to communicate across all levels within the Company (oral and written). 
    • Have good presentation skills.
    • Demonstrate above average computer literacy, especially MS Office package.
    • Have a good understanding of financial analysis and costing ability.
    • Have business management and project management skills.
    • Have customer interface and conflict management skills.
    • Have the ability to interpret technical data would be an added advantage.
    • Be self-motivated and driven.
