    Principal Occupational Hygiene

    Job Description:

    As the Principal Occupational Hygiene, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering De Beers' "Building Forever" sustainability approach. You will be responsible for developing and implementing occupational hygiene strategies and programs across our operations. Your work will integrate the needs of various stakeholders, ensuring our business model builds trust and mitigates risks to our license to operate.

    Key duties of the Principal Occupational Hygiene include:

    • Develop and deliver De Beers' Occupational Hygiene objectives, standards, and targets.
    • Monitor and report on occupational hygiene key performance indicators (KPIs) and programs.
    • Lead the development of De Beers Group Occupational Hygiene risk log and action plans.
    • Provide technical input into the development of industry standards, guidelines, and training tools.
    • Guide operational units in developing tailored occupational hygiene strategies and plans.
    • Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and analysis to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Lead talent management and capability development initiatives in occupational hygiene.
    • Establish an effective assurance and operational self-assessment audit environment.
    • Maintain a central repository of critical occupational hygiene materials.
    • Define emergency and crisis management response processes and ensure competency testing.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in a relevant discipline.
    • Strong technical expertise in occupational hygiene management.
    • Experience in designing and implementing occupational hygiene programs.
    • Practical experience in diverse economies and stakeholder environments.
    • Advanced understanding of occupational hygiene legislation and regulations.
    • Proficient in project management and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to simplify complex strategies and lead without formal authority.

    Additional information:

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Possess strong foundational knowledge and advanced expertise in occupational hygiene management, including compliance with legislation and regulations in relevant operational jurisdictions (e.g., South Africa, Canada, Botswana, or Namibia).
    • Demonstrate experience in navigating complex stakeholder environments, both domestically and internationally, within commercial and development contexts.
    • Proficient in conducting occupational hygiene audits and implementing assurance practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations, thereby mitigating risks to health and safety.
    • Stay updated on key policy drivers and emerging issues in occupational hygiene management, adept at aligning strategies and programs with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Possess strong project management capabilities to effectively plan, execute, and monitor occupational hygiene initiatives, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
    • Exhibit exceptional negotiation and persuasion skills to influence stakeholders, facilitate collaboration, and drive the implementation of occupational hygiene measures across diverse operational units.

    SCC Senior Technical Buyer

    Job Description:

    The purpose of this role is to evaluate equipment received for repair and to determine suitable source of supply for RFQ’s as well as assisting in the witnessing of testing where required, negotiating, placement and expediting Purchase Orders for materials for Debmarine, DBGS and Namdeb operations. The role is also required to co-ordinate all repair equipment to be purchased from DBMN and to facilitate the tracking and receipt of all equipment through the rotable system, via the Port Nolloth SCC or from vessel during in-port.

    Key duties of the SCC Technical Buyer includes:

    • Identifies and selects appropriate sources of supply.
    • Receives, verifies and actions approved purchase requisitions for the repair of equipment and where necessary the purchase of spare parts, material and supplies.
    • Performs technical and commercial evaluation of quotes received in consultation with end users.
    • Negotiates trade terms and discount structures with vendors, delivering cost savings.
    • Monitors price and other market movements
    • Administration (including but not limited to updating and maintenance of procurement and tender documents)
    • Prepares purchase orders based on quotes analysis and end user input.
    • Ability to analyse and interpret drawings, data and equipment failures.
    • Adheres to OHSAS and operational Policies and Procedures
    • Provide advice and guidance to customers pertaining to equipment failures analysis and improvements.
    • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with stakeholders (incl. vendors/suppliers, customers, team)
    • Supplier audits and evaluations.

    Qualifications:

    • Qualified artisan (or similar) with relevant experience within the mining or marine environment
    • Diploma in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management – advantageous
    • 3 – 5 years technical experience in a Marine and/or Mining environment (mandatory)
    • 3 – 5 years procurement experience in a Marine and/or Mining environment – advantageous
    • In depth knowledge of Marine Mining processes and material requirements, class requirements and statutory marine regulations – advantageous
