    Audit Manager (DPP Second Line of Defense)

    Description of the role and purpose of the job:

    • We are looking for a candidate who has at least two years practical audit review experience and who is passionate about audit quality to work within a dedicated team of Second Line of Defense (2LoD) reviewers to help engagement teams meet KPMG South Africa’s audit quality requirements and initiatives.

    Purpose of the position:

    • To form an integral part in the Second line of defense team and perform reviews of audit engagement files in the firm (during the audit process and immediately prior to audit opinion sign off) to identify deficiencies in audit quality and non-compliance with the KPMG Audit Execution Guide (methodology), KPMG Policies, International Standards on Auditing (ISA), Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), applicable.
    • To assist and play an important role in implementation of audit quality initiatives in the firm.
    • To assist with implementation of remedial actions by audit teams to enhance audit quality across all audit engagement files and provide audit quality support, including coaching and training, to audit teams within the firm.

    This position can be filled through a permanent internal transfer from Audit (or other function to the extent that the applicant has the required skills), a long term secondment from audit or another function (ie 18 - 24 months – out of the box experience) or an external appointment.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Perform 2LoD reviews on selected engagement files in line with global policies and programmes.
    • Being part of the team that liaises with DPP, Risk management and Quality Performance Liaison Partner (QPLP) to identify the risk areas to focus the 2LoD in addition to items on the global programme
    • Discuss and report findings from the 2LoD reviews to engagement teams, including Partners and EQCRs, and assess whether significant findings have been adequately resolved before the audit opinion is signed.
    • Assist engagement audit teams, as part of the 2LoD review process, with guidance and coaching in relation with the KPMG Audit Execution Guide (KAEG) (KPMG audit methodology), KPMG policies, International Standards of Auditing (ISA’s), PCAOB standards, ISAE, ISRS, the International Standards Reporting Manual (ISRM) and locally issued South African Auditing Practice Standards (SAAPS) and JSE reporting guide.
    • Assisting with the preparation of training to engagement audit teams on trends identified during the 2LoD reviews, relating to KAEG, KPMG policies, Clara (audit software tool), ISA’s, ISRM and SAAPS.
    • Stay up to date with developments in local standards, ISA’s and PCAOB standards through timely attendance and completion of training, involvement in internal research and involvement on local topic teams.
    • Stay up to date with developments in IFRS through attendance and completion of firm training.

    Audit Senior Manager (DPP Audit & Assurance)

    Description of the role and purpose of the job:

    • To primarily support DDP Audit and Assurance with dealing with consultations (ie methodology and reporting) and pre-issuance reviews of audit and assurance reports from audit engagement teams.
    • Also, to be part of the DPP team that is involved in supporting, training and monitoring the use of KCW tools and methodology in the audit.
    • Perform senior reviews of consultations, informal queries, audit and assurance reports and leading specific projects within DPP Audit & Assurance. Provide coaching and training of managers and other staff in DPP Audit & Assurance.

    This position can be filled through a permanent internal transfer from Audit (or other function to the extent that the applicant has the required skills), a long-term secondment from audit or another function (ie 18 - 24 months – out of the box experience) or an external appointment.

    Key responsibilities:

    •  Researching and answering and review of assurance, audit and review reporting consultations (mandatory and non-mandatory) for KPMG staff and clients in accordance with International Standards of Auditing (ISA’s), ISAE, ISRE, the KPMG International Standards Reporting Manual (ISRM) and locally issued South African Auditing Practice Standards (SAAPS) and JSE reporting guide.
    •  Performing senior pre-issuance reviews of reports submitted to DPP by engagement teams and liaising with the engagement teams and DPP partners and associate directors on these reports.
    •  Responsible for coaching and providing input to audit teams and DPP staff during the consultation process.
    •  Researching, answering and reviewing mandatory and non-mandatory methodology questions/consultations relating to the application of KAEG for audit engagements on KPMG Clara Workflow.
    •  Take a leading role on the preparation and presentation of audit updates and training on ISA’s, ISRM and SAAPS’s for KPMG partners, staff and KPMG clients through the African region (virtually and potentially face to face).
    •  Staying up to date with developments in both local standards and ISA’s through internal research and involvement on local topic teams
    •  Assisting in regulatory reviews and internal quality inspections and supporting the engagement partners in addressing methodology and reporting matters raised during such reviews.
    •  Pro-actively assist in identifying strategic opportunities and driving the business unit strategy by managing projects and other initiatives.

    Project Manager

    Purpose of the role

    • To provide project management skill and expertise for the efficient and effective delivery & execution of key projects forming part of the Audit’s Consumer, Industrial and Mining (CIM) Business Unit (BU)..
    • The role will also include the development and enhancement of the BU’s project management framework and related toolkit, for purposes of delivering on key engagements taking the form of projects. In addition, the proposed framework needs to be specifically tailored as appropriate to the type and scale of projects of CIM projects.

    The overall aim on current and future projects is to ensure that delivery takes place within the  agreed timescales, quality, and conforms with leading project management practices.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in delivering project management services to various clients in the Audit sector.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, support, and direction to team members
    • Maintain efficient utilisation of staff and any associate third parties
    • Manage and execute projects in line with the company’s quality management standards and processes
    • Plan and manage assigned projects, keeping client stakeholders and senior management informed on project progress
    • Drive and lead client workshops and steer conversations towards desired outcomes
    • Manage all projects in accordance with the  agreed budgets, schedules, and client expectations
    • Actively drive the formulation of the project plan (& associated supporting presentation type documentation) with the wider project team and client counterparts
    • Ability to conceptualise and prepare a flight plan in conjunction with a detailed project plan along with the necessary socialization with client stakeholders for purposes of obtaining sign off
    • Maintains the detailed project plan along with updates, forecast completion dates and careful management of inter-dependencies
    • Monitors progress against project plan and budget, correcting and / or escalating abnormal situations, when necessary
    • Drive the timely execution of assigned projects
    • Tracking of actual costs vs planned and approved expenditure for each assigned project
    • Execute effective risk management procedures by ensuring issues are correctly identified and recorded as well as drive the processes of assessment (with the assistance of wider team) and related reporting
    • Maintain awareness of all ongoing problems & issues and actively define solutions to ensure that the envisaged project objectives are met
    • Maintain the decision and action logs from the defined project governance meetings
    • Ensure the change log is maintained, up-to-date and change control procedures in place to cover all requests
    • Prepare status reports for review by both internal and external stakeholders – includes overall summary, workstream salient updates, risks and issues, interdependencies between functional areas and upkeep of the critical path
    • Leads and participates in client reporting sessions, including as relevant, progress review meetings and (typically) Audit Committee and Steering Committee meetings
    • Systematically monitor the completion and finalisation of the wider project deliverables, also making sure that they have been subject to the appropriate levels of review e.g., manager, partner, client etc.
    • Addresses all project customer satisfaction issues, escalating feedback as necessary for further action

    Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

    • Undergraduate degree in either engineering, built environment sciences, commerce, accounting, economics, development economics, finance, social science, business administration, or management or equivalent.
    • An established Project/Programme Manager with a proven track record in delivering  large scale business projects
    • Between 5-10 years’ experience in managing functional transformation projects e.g., finance transformation projects (process, people, technology, data, and control), and not only technology experience
    • Previous experience in working within a consulting environment would be advantageous
    • PMP
    • Advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly with Microsoft Project, Excel, and PowerPoint
