    Technical Officer

    Duties

    • Teaching support:
    • Providing support to academic staff for the preparation of practicals and lecture notes;
    • Supporting academic staff in the basic administration of undergraduate modules.
    • Research support:

    General laboratory manager duties:

    • Providing support to academic staff in the research environment with the financial management and general administration of cost centres;
    • Ordering research materials and paying service providers;
    • Maintaining inventories and instrumentation.
    • Support with postgraduate research projects:
    • General research assistance to postgraduate students¿ research projects;
    • Ensuring that students adhere to safety regulations.
    • Departmental support:
    • Managing assigned shared spaces;
    • Participating in undergraduate as well as postgraduate practicals.

    Job Requirements

    • BScAgric degree or BScHons in Genetics or Plant Biotechnology;
    • Experience in the execution of molecular biology-based experiments;
    • Effective organisational, administrative and presentation skills;
    • The ability to work in a group as well as independently.

    Medical Officer

    Duties    

    • Assisting with HIV research studies;
    • Providing clinical support for research studies;
    • Collaborating on new and on-going studies;
    • Ensuring timely recruitment for all research studies and protocols in order to implement study strategic targets;
    • Collaboratingwith the study team in order to optimise research strategies;
    • Assuming partial responsibility for certain study administration;
    • Accountable for study planning and logistics.

    Job Requirements

    • MBChB;
    • One year experience as a medical officer in a research post or environment;
    • Registered to practise in South Africa;
    • Clinical trial and research experience;
    • Experience of antiretroviral therapy and infectious diseases;
    • Patience, compassion and must enjoy working with children;
    • Good written and verbal communication skills;
    • Good understanding of political, confidential, and ethical issues surrounding HIV infection.

    Director

    Duties

    • Assuming overall responsibility for leading, managing and developing the two technical services divisions (Acquisitions and Metadata Management) of the Library and Information Service;
    • Planning and organising the technical services divisions;
    • Ensuring the cost-effective management of the information resources budget in collaboration with the Senior Director and deans of faculties;
    • Strategic planning and development in line with the objectives of the University and those of the Library and Information Service;
    • Quality assurance management and evaluation;
    • Communicating and liaising with service providers and relevant role players;
    • Performing general management functions, such as human resources and project management;
    • In collaboration with the Deputy Director: Finance and Facilities Management, responsible  for a number of tasks relating to facilities and risk management for the Library and Information 

    Job Requirements

    • An advanced relevant postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or equivalent qualification on at least NQF level 8;
    • At least eight years' experience at middle management level, preferably in an academic library;
    • In-depth knowledge of the needs of the academic community with regard to e-resources;
    • The ability to provide dynamic leadership in the rapidly changing environment of e-resources and technology, e.g., knowledge of the publishing sector, scholarly communication, etc.;
    • Knowledge of the technical requirements needed for access to e-resources;
    • High-level computer proficiency with regard to general and library applications;
    • Strategic planning skills;
    • The ability to function at senior management level;
    • Sound experience in human resources management;
    • The ability to work effectively within a team;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Financial and managerial expertise.

    Technical Officer: Card and monitoring systems

    Duties

    • Maintaining, repairing, and administrating card access control, card payment, and IP CCTV systems;
    • Performing 24-hour standby duty on a rotational basis to solve urgent problems after hours.

    Job Requirements

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12); 
    • A least six years' experience in the installation and/or maintenance of access control card readers and CCTV or alarm systems; 
    • Proven knowledge of card and camera technology; 
    • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office; 
    • Good interpersonal skills; 
    • The ability to function independently and effectively under pressure;
    • The willingness and availability to be on 24-hour call, as required; 
    • A valid driver's licence.

    Recommendation

    • National Diploma or Certificate as electronic or electro-technical technician;
    • A+/N + Certificate; 
    • Experience with the installation of IMPRO card access systems; experience with the installation and configuration of IP camera systems;
    • Proven knowledge of network systems; 
    • Basic Linux workstation knowledge; 
    • Relational database skills;
    • Microsoft Access experience; 
    • Microsoft SQL and/or PostgreSQL/ MySQL experience; 
    • A driver's licence that has been valid for longer than two years.
