    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer - Department of Civil Engineering (1 Post) (Re-advertisement)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department;
    • Supervise final year undergraduate project students and postgraduate Honours, Masters and/or PhD students;
    • Conduct research as a member of a research group in the Department and publish in leading accredited journals;
    • Raise and manage additional funding from national and international funding agencies; and industry to support the activities of the relevant research group;
    • Expand existing research programmes or initiate new research programmes;
    • Perform assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Lecturer:

    • A BEng/BScEng degree from a university of which the undergraduate programme is recognised by the Washington accord or is recognised by ECSA to be equivalent;
    • A Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering that follows on the previous qualification;
    • Publications in accredited journals or conferences;
    • Appropriate working experience either in academia and/or industry.

    Senior Lecturer (Same as for Lecturer, plus):

    • A PhD degree in Engineering that follows the previous qualification;
    • Two years tertiary education experience or 2 years related industry experience in an advanced technology area where direct innovation and involvement is demonstrated through reports and designs;
    • Expertise and research experience in one or more of the specialist areas of the research groups in the Department;
    • A proven research record supported by publications in high quality peer reviewed journals;
    • A record of previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Show the ability to teach large undergraduate classes (> 150 students);
    • Candidate must preferably be registered or at least be registerable with the Engineering Council of South Africa, or be registered as Candidate Engineer/Professional Engineer;
    • Applicants must have an appropriate NRF research rating or be on track to become legible to apply for an appropriate rating;
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching and research expertise that complement the Department’s needs;
    • Experience relating to: structural engineering, statics, data science, civil engineering design, civil engineering practice and integration of engineering sciences, civil engineering contracts, economics

    Departmental Administrator B : Department of Town and Regional Planning

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The effective and efficient implementation of student administration and general administrative issues in the departmental administration unit for undergraduate and postgraduate students to provide excellent and friendly customer service to the faculty, head of department, students, lecturers, the university in general and the community according to the strategic initiatives arising from the Vision and Missing of the University.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12 and
    • Secretarial/office administration diploma;
    • 3 Years Administrative Experience;
    • 3 Years Secretarial Experience.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Sound general managerial and leadership skills.
    • Ability to think strategically;
    • Strong persuasive and conflict handling skills;
    • Computer Skills (Excel, Word & PowerPoint);
    • PeopleSoft;
    • Good interpersonal skills of working in an environment of diverse cultures and groups;
    • Good language and communication skills;
    • Ability to cope with stringent deadlines and work pressure.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Bachelor degree;
    • Basic knowledge of the built environment;
    • Experience within a tertiary or academic environment;
    • Skills in the use of web based educational systems such as ClickUP/ People soft, web-page development;
    • Student Administration.
