    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor (One Post) - Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • The curriculum development of and lecturing of modules in the programme(s) based in the department;
    • In addition, the incumbent will pursue research activities such as own research, research-based publications and the supervision of post graduate students registered in the department;  
    • Developing, presenting and co-ordinating undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance presentation;
    • Mentoring students for practice teaching/work integrated learning;
    • Using a learning management system to develop and present courses;
    • Presenting lectures and programmes in an E-learning environment;
    • Providing a significant contribution to research outputs, post graduate teaching and supervision.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    LECTURER:

    • Master’s degree in the field of Computer Integrated Education / Educational Technology;
    • Evidence of teaching experience in Computer Integrated Education for example being a teacher, tutor or lecturer;
    • At least one publication in an accredited journal or equivalent units;

    SENIOR LECTURER:

    • PhD in the field of Computer Integrated Education / Educational Technology;
    • At least three years of tertiary or related teaching experience;
    • At least five accredited publications and evidence of conference papers;
    • Evidence of successful Masters or PhD supervision;

    ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR:

    • PhD in the field of Computer Integrated Education / Educational Technology;
    • At least five years of tertiary or related teaching experience;
    • Experience in curriculum development and innovation;
    • At least ten accredited publications;
    • At least four Post Graduate students successfully supervised, of which at least two on PhD level;
    • Active membership of national scholarly bodies;
    • National peer recognition (citations, keynote/plenary addresses);
    • Proven research funding success;
    • Community engagement in a related field;
    • Academic citizenship – external examination / article reviews etc;
    • Active membership of international scholarly bodies.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Knowledge of the different knowledge fields Computer Integrated Education;
    • Knowledge of teaching methodologies in the different knowledge fields of Computer Integrated Education;

    Internship

    DURATION

    The internship programme is offered for a period of 24 months. Successful applicants will be required to sign a contract for the duration of the internship.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidates will actively participate in the following:

    Training modules provided by relevant experts on:

    • The multilateral trade system for forestry and agriculture;
    • Interpretation and application of relevant international standards for sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) measures;
    • Policy and operational aspects of SPS regulatory services e.g. pest risk analysis, surveillance, pest reporting etc.;
    • Development and management of Early Warning Systems for emerging pests and diseases of quarantine concern to South Africa;
    • Traceability;
    • SPS communication and awareness.

    Projects to gain experience in:

    • Preparation of technical reports or opinions requested in the format prescribed by the relevant SPS authorities;
    • Conduct pest and disease risk analysis (pest and disease listing, categorization, risk assessment and risk management);
    • National surveillance systems and activities of pest monitoring and detection;
    • Evaluation and best practices in phytosanitary risk management applied to the specific SA sectors for export market access and maintenance;
    • Development of technical dossiers in response to requests for technical information/ research from SPS authorities or relevant to the National Biosecurity Hub projects;
    • Stakeholder engagement and awareness;
    • Attend workshops, meetings and ad-hoc tasks where necessary.

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

    • To be eligible, internship applicants MUST meet the following minimum requirements:
    • Be a South African citizen or South African Permanent Resident (with a valid South African Identity Document).
    • Should be currently unemployed

    Should have completed their study at the time of submitting the application and hold a qualification in any of the following:

    • PhD (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science);
    • OR
    • MSc (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science);
    • OR
    • BSc Honours (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science).

    Senior Systems Administrator - Department of Enrolment and Student Administration

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    User Support: 

    • Provide end user support to systems enquiries;
    • Provide detailed guidance to end users, as well as provide navigation through the systems;
    • Troubleshooting and problem identification of issues pertaining student systems, and escalating issues raised that cannot be resolved by the relevant stakeholders;
    • Escalate unresolved matters, as per policies and procedures;
    • Liaise with external service providers to resolve system issues;

    Senior Manager - Africa Hub Leadership Centre (AHLC)

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Leadership

    • Work closely with the Director of the AHLC and the Future Africa Director to provide operational direction and to lead communications and engagement of the AHLC;
    • Strategic position of the Hub within the University of Pretoria and Rhodes University landscape; exploring and furthering any possible intellectual synergies across academic faculties and departments;
    • Strategically position the Hub within the African and international scientific and policy communities as a centre of excellence in promoting research development, leadership, and coordination in Africa and beyond;

    Strategic Management  

    • Work with the AHLC Director to oversee the operationalisation of the work of the AHLC and its strategic direction based on work plans approved by the Steering Committee;
    • Develop a long-term strategic plan for the Future Earth Africa Hub;
    • Work towards the establishment of an African Sustainability Science Association;

    Academic and Scientific Research

    • Represent the Future Earth stakeholders on the continent in Future Earth structures, elevating the ideas and concerns of the African sustainability of science research community to the global level;
    • Advance African sustainability science research, build science clusters and maintain the network of sustainability scientists and key stakeholders in Africa, with emphasis on early career researchers;

    Financial Management

    • Manage the funds/finances in accordance with the University of Pretoria principles, policies and practices;
    • Identify and attract new funding opportunities;

    • Lead in the identification, mobilising, accessing and where needed designing capacity building programmes to support early career researchers.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • PhD related to sustainability science or similar area;
    • At least five years’ experience in:
    • Regional African scientific leadership in sustainability science or a related area;
    • Fundraising and effective writing of research funding proposals;
    • Programme/project management in a science or related area;
    • A valid driver’s licence.

    Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (One Position) - Department of Animal Science - Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
