    Graduate Engineer: Bridges - Midrand

    KEY ROLE:

    Will be rapidly upskilled to perform designs using both of the Following vendor’s suites of engineering software tools:

    • Bentley Suite – Roads, site and drainage modelling using Bentley Open Roads, and CAD production there of using Bentley Microstation V8i, together with document management using Bentley Project Wise.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The candidate will be upskilled to perform the following design tasks includes Civil and structural Engineering modelling and engineering designs including :

    • Structural design and analysis using Prokon, Strap or Midas
    • The design of bridges and civil structures including bridges, culverts, reservoirs mining infrastructure
    • Site visits on construction sites
    • Structural inspections
    • Revit modeling of structures 
    • Multi-disciplinary model federation using BIM360 and Navisworks, with clash detection and resolution

    Job Description

    Provide a consulting engineering service and the design of MV & LV, Small Power and Lighting, Single Line Diagrams, Reticulation, Generators, UPS, Fire Detection as well Data, CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarms and Building Management Systems.

    Assistant Consultant - Cape Town

    Job Description

    An Assistant Consultant is required to complement the Cape Town Environmental team. The candidate will primarily provide support on environmental projects including environmental authorisation procedures (Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Water Licensing, and Waste Licensing etc.), stakeholder engagement / public participation, and compliance auditing.     • Experience with design of coastal structures, e.g. revetments, breakwaters, shore protection and scour protection.
    • Experience with evaluation of the coastal environment of a specific site, taking into account all local coastal processes (may include site reconnaissance).
    • Experience in modelling/analysis of coastal processes and beach/nearshore morphology, e.g. to inform development setbacks and/or dredging requirements.
    • Experience in coastal engineering and associated processes, e.g. assessments of extreme water levels (min/max), structure overtopping and wave loading.
    • Experience in defining the environmental design conditions and interpretation of environmental parameters.
    • Translation of numerical modelling results into representative design conditions to establish a basis of design.
    • Experience in port planning and operations.
    • Concept to detail design and construction drawing production on the type of projects mentioned above, demonstrating a deep understanding of the coastal processes involved in this work.

    Experience in coastal engineering and other software tools will be an advantage:

    Junior Renewables Engineer - Midrand

    Job Description

    WSP South Africa is looking for an entry level Renewables Engineer who will function as a technical consultant for utility scale (5MW+) Solar PV, Wind energy and Battery Energy Storage projects in the Southern Africa region and also able to support the international business as required.

    Registration as a candidate engineer/technologist with ECSA with the view of obtaining a PrEng/PrTech registration within 2-4 years is required; however existing professional/candidacy registrations with ECSA is considered advantageous.

    Up to 30% travel to clients, sites and manufacturers premises is envisaged. The role may require foreign travel, specifically travel within South Africa and neighbouring countries.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical advisory services for Solar PV, Wind Energy, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and Energy Yield Assessments for solar, wind, BESS, and hybrid systems.
    • Prepare functional designs, specifications, and tender documents for Renewable Energy projects according to internationally accepted standards. This work is done for clients in Southern Africa and internationally under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Prepare reports and drawings to meet stakeholder requirements under the supervision of a senior engineer.
    • Manage small to medium multi-disciplinary engineering projects, including basic project management tasks.
    • Attend meetings with project stakeholders and prepare meeting minutes.

    • ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; however preference is given to candidates that are already Professional registered with ECSA.

    BIM Modeler - Fire Services - Midrand

    Job Description

    We are actively seeking an individual who can join the Fire team and be responsible for preparing technical drawings of fire protection installations / systems, as well as fire safety drawings. (Experience in other Mechanical services such as Wet Services and Medical Gas Services will be advantageous).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for design and modelling of fire protection systems as well as fire safety plans.
    • Create and/or modify existing engineering designs and models.
    • Design Fire protection systems for projects, perform full hydraulic calculations and have on-site coordination responsibilities to ensure a successful outcome for our customers and the company
    • Coordinate and communicate with building owners, clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and project team members (internally and externally).

    • Good understanding of fire safety of a building, as per SANS 10400-part T.
    • Understanding of equipment and service co-ordination of the fire reticulation systems, automatic sprinklers, penetrations, fire sealing.

    The items detailed herein are guidelines for the Design Manager position. The person will report to the Sector Lead: Internal Design Delivery. Needs to develop extensive knowledge of the organization, who key stakeholders/personnel are (both external and internal) and understand the organization’s systems and processes to support the effective and timeous conversion and execution of projects.

    As a Design Manager, the incumbent will lead complex multidisciplinary programs and projects with numerous cross-functional teams. They will review requirements with internal stakeholders, compile data, and support discipline heads in delivering multi-disciplinary projects.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Project manage the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects within the Business Unit from an internal perspective

    Senior Renewables Engineer - Midrand

    Job Description

    KEY ROLE:

    WSP South Africa is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Renewables Engineer who will function as a senior technical consultant for utility-scale (5MW+) Solar PV and Wind Energy projects in Southern Africa and also be able to support the international business as required.

    Registration as a candidate engineer with ECSA to obtain a PrEng registration within 1-2 years is required; however, existing professional registration with ECSA is considered advantageous. Up to 50% of travel to clients, sites and manufacturers premises is envisaged. The role will require foreign travel, specifically travel within Africa.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:           

    Technical (Approximately 70%):

    • Managing high-quality quality technical advisory works.
    • Project management and interfacing between engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil and control & instrumentation);
    • Provide technical input from initial assessment through to technical and economic feasibility of the solar PV /Wind projects and integration with other electrical or generating plants as necessary.
    • Review overall project design and suggest technical and design improvements.
    • Preparation and management of technical specifications, bills of materials, tender stage management and evaluations, negotiation and selection of Balance of Plant, Operation & Maintenance or EPC, and other supply contracts.
    • Technical reviews/negotiate key construction contracts for, and alongside, clients.
    • Due diligence of solar PV projects and support Sponsor(s) and Lender(s) throughout the Financial Close process including technical liaison with legal and financial advisors.
    • Risk management, including construction, operational, and financial risk as well as internal WSP risk management.
    • Assessing technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies to reduce risk exposure in project CAPEX, OPEX, and revenues.
    • Monitoring project construction and acceptance including site visits and commissioning supervision; and
    • Assist with and/or conduct any other necessary aspects of a project that fall within the discipline of the role.
    • Mentor and supervise junior engineers including reviewing, checking, and approving the work output of junior engineers.

    Business developer (Approximately 30%):

    • Drive and participate in business development in defining and deploying the sales strategy, selecting target markets and clients, and in scoping and pricing of services, with particular focus on the South African and regional markets such as Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
    • Prepare and manage proposals for client projects such as Due Diligence, Technical Advisory Services, Owner’s Engineering, Lenders Technical Advisor, and other service offerings, and provide inputs for the WSP internal governance process.
    • Manage existing and new customer relationships through efficient client and account management; and
    • Attend internal and external meetings and represent WSP in a suitable fashion according to the company principles at all times. 
    • Maintaining relationships with internal divisions, external contractors, and clients. 

    Qualifications

    • BSc Engineering (Elec or Mech) Degree or BTech Engineering (Elect or Mech)
    • 7+ years’ experience in Solar PV technology with experience in Wind Technology considered very advantageous. A Mix of South African experience (REIPPP) and regional overseas experience is also preferred.
    • In-depth knowledge and field expertise regarding solar PV/Wind Turbbine technologies including emerging technologies in the international renewable energy market.
    • Technical advisory experience towards investors, project developers, and banks.
    • Proven experience in business development.
    • Knowledge of various solar PV applications (utility-scale, ground-mounted, building-mounted, fixed tilt, single-axis, and multi-axis tracking).
    • International solar PV project development and delivery experience.
    • Experience covering a range of solar PV plant lifecycle delivery (including feasibility and development engineering, construction monitoring, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, and operational monitoring/inspections)
    • Knowledge of solar PV plant designs, Energy Yield Assessment, layouts, and connection interfaces. 
    • ECSA registration as a Candidate is required; however, preference is given to candidates that are already Professionally registered with ECSA.
