    Head Underwriter (Non Life) - Sandton

    Role Purpose    
    To maintain and grow an existing portfolio of clients through relationship management and product development by managing underwriting risk by developeing and implementing sound and prudent underwriting principles.

    Requirements    

    • FAIS representative
    • Insurance Qualification would be advantageous
    • At least 15 to 20 years’ experience in underwriting, preferbbly with knowledge and experience in all lines, including cell captive business  
    • At least 5 years management experience

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Retention and growth of the portfolio
    • Development, introduction and implementation of new products
    • Implementing Underwriting standards to ensure profitability
    • Ensuring compliance with Reinsurance Treaties
    • Monitor Underwriting Performance of the portfolio
    • Managing and implement the Companies Underwriting Methodology

    Underwriter (MUM) - Sandton

    Role Purpose    
    The incumbent of the role is responsible for a underwriting/Policy Administraction, such as issuing new business, effecting changes/endorsements to existing business,  providing  overall supporting role to the renewal process (i.e. preparation of claims reports and preparing renewal terms templates) , and liaising with brokers.

    Requirements    

    • Matric (Grade 12) 
    • Insurance qualification
    • FAIS compliant and appropriate RE certification
    • Minimum 120 FAIS credits (NQF level 5)
    • At least 5 years of commercial underwriting experience in the Insurance Industry of which 3 years should at least be in commercial motor underwriting

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Collaborating with both internal and external clients to provide superior customer experience
    • Creating a smooth onboarding customer experience
    • Maintaining customer communication calendar in order to respond timeously
    • Always being factual and educational on the product offering
    • Creating a customer perceived added value programme
    • General daily maintenance of policies by providing quote on additional items brokers/clients would like to add on their respective policies and generally manage the daily endorsements of policy as per the agreed turn-around time
    • Adhoc assistance as required to the PM during the Tender season in prepping new tenders, preparing claims information for pricing and assisting overall in presenting terms to the market
    • Assist in the Tender season to quoting (if requested) and writing new municipal business within agreed underwriting principals and guidelines
    •  Ensuring all documentation and info has been received before anything can be done on a tender/quotation
    • Once documentation has been received, claims on the specific account need to be analysed and loss ratio is determined and projected
    • Total account is analysed in detail in order to determine what rates will be applicable
    • Liaising with brokers telephonically and if need be, in person
    • To keep control of administration process, sign of policy documentation issuing of policies and Sasria’s in time as well as liaising with Sasria
    •  Administering policies once tender has been awarded to company
    • Issuing of new business schedules/wordings and invoicing
    • Monitoring and applying corrective action on badly performing clients
    • Monitoring and maintaining an acceptable loss ratio at an individual client’s level
    • Maintaining and building relationships with brokers
    • Following up with respective brokers to ensure we receive all proposed terms on time and they are processed on the system as per the SLA’s
    • Follow-up after invoicing for renewal that we get the premium as quickly as possible
    • Process Amendment Endorsement as and when required
    • Loading and invoicing policies
    • Printing schedules and send them out
    • Amending and invoicing policies accordingly to instructions received
    • Preparing renewals and underwriting them
    • Liaising with all relevant departments to ensure smooth flow of business
    • Building strong relationships with key brokers
    • Managing daily output of junior administrators / processors
    • Manage daily mail count from both at an individual and common email boxes
    • Allocating and monitoring of daily work to junior administrators
    • Supporting junior administrators on their daily needs
    • Checking the junior administers work and accuracy
    • Constant confirmation of premiums to claims department
    • Confirming cover to claims technicians required
    • Actioning all system notification on any action needed to be taken
    • Responsible for running weekly and monthly debtors / ageing reports
    • Presenting the reports to brokers and visit broker when necessary
    • Presenting individual statements of accounts and invoices to broker when required
    • Regularly following up on unpaid accounts with respective broker until the cash is receipted
    • Liaising with credit control department to ensure correct allocation of premiums to correct accounts
    • Handling all client queries, complaints and problems

    Risk Manager - Sandton

    Role Purpose    
    The risk manager will be responsible for Guardrisk Group including 5 short and long-term insurance licenses under its management control and exposure to international insurance licenses in the Group. The successful applicant will be responsible for identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring and reporting of risk as well as the management of the enterprise risk management framework. The Risk Manager reports to the Managing Executive:  Governance, Risk, Legal & Compliance and will work closely with the actuarial and finance units as well as all of the functional area line managers.  The Risk Manager as part of the risk management function acts as second line of defence within Guardrisk.  

    Requirements    

    • Grade 12
    • Relevant BSc Degree (Stats, Econometrics, B Com)
    • Relevant membership Qualification
    • Registration with the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (preferable)
    • Knowledge of any of the well-known ERM frameworks (i.e. COSO)
    • Good understanding of Solvency Assessment & Management (SAM)
    • Above average working knowledge of MS Office and Risk Management Software platforms
    • Understanding or exposure to basic quantitative risk management concepts
    • At least 3-5 years risk management experience in the financial services sector, preferably in or with exposure to a short-term insurance or a long-term insurance environment
    • At least 2 years’’ experience in the implementation of a risk management framework essential
    • Excellent understanding of risk management best practices
    • Experience in conducting of risk assessment
    • Experience in managing staff

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Ensure the enterprise risk management framework is effectively implemented within the business
    • Review and maintain risk management documentation such as the risk appetite statement, risk taxonomy, risk policies etc
    • Facilitate reviews of the risk appetite statement to ensure it remains appropriate and recommend changes where this may be required
    • Monitoring of appropriate key risk indicators together with associated tolerances, limits and related reporting
    • Undertake periodic risk assessments working with the various risk owners and ensure that the risk registers are kept up to date
    • Manage the own risk and solvency assessment (ORSA) process including coordinating all related inputs, outputs and assessments
    • Provide risk management guidance and training to staff and ensure the necessary documents are made available
    • Critical review of existing and/or development of new risk reports to ensure that they are suitable and useful to aid in decision making.Preparation, submission and/or presentation of risk reports to the various operations and/or governance forums within the business
    • Liaising with and exchanging information with the other assurance providers as part of the combined assurance approach
    • Responsible for the management of the risk management platform
    • Identifying current/actual and emerging risks through evaluating internal and external risk environment on a continuous basis
    • Aggregating, monitoring and advising management on the effective management and mitigation of identified risks
    • Risk monitoring on risk appetite, risk registers, loss data, combined assurance, key risk indicators and emerging risks
    • Maintaining updated risk registers for applicable entities in the Group
    • Management of the risk management team
