The role:

• Responsible for ensuring that the coal mined is in accordance with agreed standards.  Conducts regular mining visits to ensure that the coal available and delivered to stockpiles and plants is in accordance with agreed blocks and qualities.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Audit and ensure that the coal coming from the mines to the plants is in accordance with agreed daily, weekly, and monthly plans
• Liaise with mining to jointly make decisions on what to do when coal quality deviates from expected or agreed qualities
• Track, manage and report on the quality of coal in all ex-pit coal and product stockpiles through sampling and tracking in-flows and out-flows from the stockpiles
• Coordinate with mining and Business Planning to ensure that the geological model is updated with timely and accurate information
• Coordinate with a wide range of key stakeholders in the plants, mines, and Business Planning, to achieve coal quality compliance and tracking objectives
• Ensures adherence to policies, standards and procedures in all areas of operations
• Determination and communication of potential risks and measures to limit those risks at the lowest cost
• Investigates non-conformance to mining activities, identifies areas for improvement and implement solutions
• Carries out responsibilities in terms of HSEC requirements
• Responsible for compliance in respect to Company policies and procedures
• Coaches and provides technical assistance to contractor personnel
• Ensures adherence to own Personal Development Plans and Performance contract

Requirements:

• Diploma or Junior Degree in Geology
• Site specific programmes
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in the production environment
• Computer literacy: MS Office
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

• Registration with relevant professional body (SACNASP, GSSA)
• Knowledge of legislative requirements applicable to the role
• Knowledge of geological software
• Knowledge of mine business planning

The role:

• The Mining Activity Engineer reports to the Section Manager Planning.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Compiling designs, detailed plans and short-term schedules for major mining activities on the mine
• Compiling of weekly/monthly/quarterly and annual reconciliations as part of compliance to plan reporting
• Supply required information for weekly marketing and management plans
• Assist in compiling weekly review (planning) meetings presentation(s), as well as the monthly planning meeting
• Liaising with other Activity Engineers with regards to integration of mine plans
• Liaising with various other departments including, but not limited, Survey, Geology, Environmental, Mining, Metallurgy and Engineering
• Assist with annual budget/LOM process

Requirements:

Qualification:

• National Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering with MO Certificate OR
• Relevant underground mining qualifications (MO Certificate advantageous) WITH recognition and recommendation for prior learning / experience

Experience:

• Minimum 6 years’ experience with either; 2 years appointed as a Shiftboss in a relevant mining production environment OR 2 years relevant experience as Planning Officer
• Experience with Mine Planning software including, but not limited to Deswik, XPAC, 3D-dig, Microstation, Talpac, Dragsim
• Knowledge of underground mining activities
• An appreciation of legislation relating to the mining industry, as well as applicable procedures
• Ability to work under pressure and variable workload
• Be willing and able to work overtime and over weekends if and when the requirement arises
• Good analytical capabilities
• Good communication (verbal and written) skills
• A high regard for safety
• Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Valid driver’s license and own transport
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
