    Internship: Energy Industry

    About The Job

    • The CSIR has an Internships opportunities for Interns in the Energy Centre within the Smart Places cluster. The purpose of the Internship is to provide an opportunity to gain practical work experience through providing technical support to Energy Economists working in the field of the Just Energy Transition, including data gathering/capture, analysis, presentation and reporting. Assistance with organising and running workshops with stakeholders will also be required. These positions are based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Gather data and capture on spreadsheets and databases;
    • Analyse data, presentations and reports;
    • Perform literature reviews and summarize findings;
    • Coordinate workshops and keep record of stakeholder attendance confirmation, venue, costs associated with the event.

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A BCom degree in economics or econometrics;
    • An Honour’s degree will be advantageous;
    • Highly literate and numerate, with good spreadsheet, database, presentation and reporting skills;
    • Applicants must be South African citizens.

    Safety, Health and Environment(SHE)Implementation Officer

    About The Job

    The CSIR has two vacancies for a SHE Implementation Officer in the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Function. The incumbents will provide SHE implementation support (administrative and operational) to the division/support portfolio in order to ensure compliance with applicable SHE legislative requirements and certification of international standards (e.g. ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), CSIR SHEQ policy, SHE management system manual and processes. These positions are based in Pretoria.
    Key responsibilities: SHE MBWAs:

    • Facilitate monthly SHE management walkabouts (MBWAs) for all divisional/support portfolio S16.2 appointees;
    • Ensure all SHE findings identified during the MBWA are recorded, reported, and adequately addressed to meet SHE requirement;

    SHE Compliance and Continual Improvement:

    • Ensure that all division/support portfolio SHE appointments are formalized and maintained;
    • Support all SHE incident investigations, develop initial and final incident reports, root cause analysis, and remedial action implementation;
    • Ensure when a SHE incident or non-conformity occurs, a Corrective Action Request (CAR) is timeously raised, tracked, and managed adequately;
    • Ensure that all SHE risk assessments are completed, signed off, and updated;
    • Participate in both internal and external SHEQ audits;
    • Ensure division/support portfolio emergency evacuation drills are planned and executed in conjunction with SHEQ Department;
    • Liaise with the CSIR Medical Centre whenever an incident occurs and facilitate the medical surveillance process;
    • Arrange and keep records of SHE management reviews and other related SHE committee meetings;
    • Review divisional / portfolio SHE procedures and processes;

    SHE Operational Support

    • Provide support to all SHE Representatives, Impact Area Managers/ Research Group Leaders, and other SHE role players with SHE inspections, procurement of SHE materials,
    • keeping track of SHE risk assessments, training records, and equipment/machinery registers;
    • Ensure that the SHE documented information is maintained in accordance with SHEQ Document Management Procedure;
    • Prepare and present annual SHE training calendar for the division/support portfolio;
    • Arrange and coordinate the training of division/support portfolio SHE appointees and all SHE role players;
    • Participate in SHE related incident investigations and provide inputs or submit reports if required;
    • Attend to all service requests relating to SHE function in the division/ support portfolio and provide an efficient and effective response.

    Qualifications, Skills, And Experience

    • A three year National Diploma or equivalent in one of the SHE fields with at least three years’ experience in implementing SHE systems;
    • SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification;
    • Formal training by a recognized body on ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001;
    • Registered Trainer-the-Trainer or Facilitator with relevant SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) in SHE environment will be advantageous;
    • Knowledge of SHE management systems;
    • Knowledge of SHE regulatory framework e.g. OHS Act, NEMA etc. is an advantage;
    • Experience in dealing with SHE related matters at the operational level;
    • Computer literacy as well as strong administrative and report writing skills required;
    • A valid driver’s license; and
    • Good communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
