    Advisor Comm & External Affairs – Africa

    Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Business Partner – Africa, you will: 

    • Be responsible for supporting the implementation of corporate communications (including media, digital, employee communications and brand) and external affairs activities to protect and enhance Rio Tinto’s reputation, with a focus on key markets in Africa.
    • Support proactive and reactive issues management with communications plans and corporate materials.
    • Work in close coordination with colleagues within the team to ensure alignment and delivery of key deliverables.
    • Provide project and event management support externally (including conferences, meetings and forums).
    • Support in proactively and consistently managing stakeholder expectations, including managing external partners and vendors when relevant, helping ensure quality, timeliness and effective delivery against objectives.
    • Support the coordination and development of relevant communication content, collateral and schedules.
    • Research and prepare materials including briefs, presentations and key analysis reports.
    • Together with the media team, support media relations initiatives within the region and monitor traditional and social media, including the identification and tracking of trends for key markets in coordination with other teams.
    • Provide guidance and support to Rio Tinto Africa site teams in the development and execution of communications objectives to build site-based capacity.

    • Five Years or more experience working within an External Affairs and/or Corporate Communications environment.
    • Proficient English (in addition, French proficiency would be an advantage).
    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills to create effective and compelling content for a wide range of audiences and channels.
    • Proven ability to engage with and communicate issues across external and internal stakeholders.
    • Highly motivated and strong people engagement skills – empathetic and excellent listening skills.
    • Drive, determination, creativity and ambition to make things happen.
    • Experience working independently and as part of a team, exercising sound judgement, and managing multiple on-going projects while meeting critical deadlines is essential.
    • Experience working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including reputational risks, will be advantageous.
    • Experience in navigating complex stakeholder relationships, developing relationships and secure influence.

    Finance Business Partner – Manager (Rio Tinto Exploration Africa)

    Reporting to the Regional Finance Business Partner – EMEA, you will be responsible for:

    • Influencing and partnering: Building and maintaining strong partnerships with senior leaders, including exploration director, country, and project managers. Working closely with stakeholders to increase their focus on financial performance targets. Close collaboration with and support to, commercial and legal teams on commercial deals (existing and new).
    • Leading and coaching: Fostering financial acumen and discipline across all teams (management, project and support) in a way that helps teams understand the value of financially sound and informed decisions; coaching and developing direct reports.
    • Planning and forecasting: Responsible for co-ordinating the annual plan, including preparation of templates, guiding and supporting stakeholders during the process, ensuring accurate capturing of the plan into the system and reconciliation thereof. Collaborating with exploration director, general managers, project and country managers, and function support team to align annual plans and periodical re-forecasts with planned operational activity. Analysing YTD results and identifying the need for regional re-allocations.
    • Reporting, analysis and managing performance: Conduct monthly and ad hoc analysis of the financial results and provide insightful feedback to stakeholders to drive cost discipline and financial awareness; monthly JV reporting. Preparation of ad-hoc analysis and reports as requested by senior management, ensuring accurate and reliable input and relevant information to aid in business decisions and compliance.
    • Establishing new processes, continuous business, and process improvement: Designing and implementing processes for new country entries that are in line with Rio Tinto (RT) policies and procedures, local statutory and legal compliance, and are achievable for project expectations. Continuously identifying improvement opportunities, particularly through technological advancements within RT and in the external environment (countries in which we work).
    • Managing reports and local finance service providers: Lead direct/ indirect reports and local finance service providers to ensure key deliverables are met. Mentor, lead and coach team, identifying potential areas for growth and development.
    • Compliance and other key responsibilities: Overseeing the regional Accounts Payable function for off-box entities to ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors. Preparation of funding, and board, papers and coordinating the approval process. Cash management for all entities, ensuring sufficient working capital to meet commitments.

    What you’ll bring:

    Nurse: Occupational Health

    Reporting to the Superintendent: Occupational Health you will:

    • Provide an efficient, cost-effective occupational medical service through the provision of medical emergency services, chronic care and standard medicals to RBM employees and external contractors.
    • Monitor employee’s health by comparing periodic medical results with previous medical information to determine potential deterioration.
    • Monitor employee exposure to industrial hazards by conducting specific medical tests.
    • Monitor and raise awareness of the effects of occupational hazards such as noise levels and report any incidents / anomalies.
    • Prepare documentation regarding workman’s compensation claims, ill-health retirement processes and sick leave and ensure compliance with company policy.

    What you’ll bring

    To succeed in this role, you will have:

    • Diploma in Nursing Science
    • Post-graduate Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing
    • Professional registration with SA Nursing Council, the South African Society of Occupational Health Nurses and with Audiometry Council if having to conduct Audiometry testing.
    • 2 Years’ experience as an Occupational Health Nurse and 1 year experience running a clinic in an Industrial Setting.
    • Experience with casualty and emergency services would be highly advantageous.
    • Training in Audiometry, vision and spirometry are essential.
