    Data Analyst - Pretoria

    Position Overview

    The Data Analyst role is within the Country Risk and Industry Research (CRIR) team within Global Content Operations (GCO), part of Fitch’s Chief Data Office (CDO)function. The role will interface with teams across GCO and the wider CDO as well as groups in Fitch Ratings and Fitch Solutions, and will sit alongside and support our market-leading credit research team spanning offices in London, New York, Singapore, and Centurion.

    GCO are responsible for collecting, maintaining and analysing macro data, updating forecast data, and generating risk index scores, supporting Fitch Solutions (FS) and the CRIR business.

    The role involves close collaboration with other CRIR data and research analysts, and the wider GCO/ CDO team for the purposes of quality, timeliness, policy adherence, and data governance.

    We are looking for candidates with a strong academic background and a keen interest in data, with a prior understanding of statistics and econometrics principles, and familiarity with macroeconomic data.

    This is a great opportunity to join the CDO function, as it transforms the role and the direction of data across the organization. The position reports to the CRIR Team Lead

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with data collection of specific content required by the CRIR business
    • Gather and analyse time-series data efficiently for use by CRIR analysts
    • Run and monitor forecast models, reviewing the model output to ensure accuracy of content
    • Collaborate with research analysts to ensure accurate and timely delivery of data to our products
    • Respond to internal and external queries regarding our data sets and methodologies
    • Work with CRIR sector leads to develop and improve FS product offering

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Undergraduate degree in economicsor statistics or similar.
    • Academic or professional experience working with macroeconomic data
    • Strong proficiency in Excel
    • Knowledge of VBA, Python or similar preferred
    • Proven forecasting, analytical, and data manipulation skills
    • Must have a highly organised and methodical approach to work, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • To be a self-starter who can pick up new processes quickly and accurately
    • Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude

    Operational Risk Analyst

    Analyst Role And Responsibilities

    • Contributing analytical research on a daily basis on political, economic and sector risk, primarily through articles, reports but also through webinars and client interaction
    • Managing a portfolio of countries, producing analysis and reports assessing risks and opportunities
    • Collaborating with country risk and industry analysts across global offices to ensure holistic, cutting-edge analysis
    • Helping to shape the Fitch Solutions CRIR team’s global industry/country risk views and integrating views on the global/regional economy and individual sectors.
    • Overseeing key sector developments and identifying value-added multi-asset investment themes
    • Working alongside our Sales team and directly with our clients to communicate key views and promote our business

    Your Profile

    We are looking for individuals with a strong academic background and a passion for the subject matter (ideally with skills in economic analysis, logistics/supply chain risk management; security risk and international relations and related policy areas). You will need to show interest in the global economy, a basic understanding of macro principles, knowledge of financial markets (interest in forecasting) and familiarity with world affairs. An ambition and a desire to learn and continue to develop as an analyst from day one is essential.

    Basic Requirements

    • Previous professional experience in analysis and research would be valued
    • Fluent English writing style
    • Strong communication skills to liaise with a global team spread across offices
    • Genuine interest in world affairs, international business, emerging markets and financial markets
    • Attention to detail

    Ideal Skills/Qualifications

    Power & Renewables Industry Analyst

    You Will Be

    • Contributing analytical research and views to our daily and quarterly publications
    • Scoping and aiding the development of new research fields in the power and renewables space including topics such as hydrogen, power storage, renewable technologies and their pricing dynamics.
    • Managing your own portfolio of country power reports, producing opportunity and risk assessments and 5- and 10-year market forecasts
    • Working closely with our other industry teams in Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Country Risk and Autos.
    • Developing and expanding a comprehensive knowledge of project, regulatory and technology developments to facilitate accurate power market forecasting.
    • Analysing the growth strategies of the world’s leading energy firms
    • Identifying market and company trends and articulating how these translate into growth opportunities for our clients
    • Interacting and supporting our sales team and with clients to communicate our industry views and to help promote content sales

    You will be trained to produce value-added and actionable analysis for senior decision-makers across the global business spectrum. You will be able to develop strong industry expertise, while also gaining important client-facing experience. Furthermore, you will have the chance to develop a deeper understanding of macroeconomics and the political economy thanks to our unique integration of Industry and Country Risk analysis.

    Requirements - Essential

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor or Master’s degree with a focus on Energy, Environment, Economics, International Relations, or related field
    • Experience in related industry or energy-related analysis and research
    • Ability to solve problems using critical, rational and creative thinking
    • Very strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly convey technical concepts
    • An interest in international business
    • Numeracy and a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
    • Attention to detail

    Requirements - Desirable

    • An understanding of renewable technology price dynamics
    • An understanding of the hydrogen and battery storage sectors
    • Industry experience
    • Language skills
