    Snr Actuarial Specialist

    Job Description

    Role Overview:

    The Mass and Foundation Cluster (MFC) Actuarial Finance team has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to play a key review and thought leadership role in the valuation space. The team is responsible for financial reporting (IFRS, MCEV and SAM), maintaining (coding and peer review) of Prophet and DCS models, and supporting robust forecasting, business planning and monthly reporting for the segment.

    Reporting to the Valuations Manager, the role will allow you to develop sound technical knowledge and grant exposure to coaching.  The successful candidate will be accountable for the end to end reporting process for the MFC Risk product range, from ownership of the actuarial model to reporting of the results to senior stakeholders with appropriate analysis and insights to drive decision making that helps achieve the MFC strategy.  The incumbent will be required to continually review and improve existing methods and processes. The role will participate in various projects, including IFRS 17 implementation, which will present opportunities to develop further insights and influence reporting within and across the business and finance community.

    Key Results Areas:

    • Financial reporting -  Ensure that valuation results are produced accurately, within agreed deadlines and with appropriate supporting commentary
    • Capital management – Support for producing capital calculations accurately and on time
    • Business planning / forecasting – Support the team that provides forecasting and ongoing monitoring (outside of valuation periods) of the financial impacts of the OML strategy (by providing the necessary technical calculations)
    • Investigations – Undertake investigations (on behalf of Business Partner, Finance Actuary and Actuarial Manager) as will be delegated to you
    • Models – Ownership of Prophet and DCS models used in valuations
    • Continuous improvements – Enhancements of models and processes that produce IFRS/FSV, MCEV and SAM reporting
    • IFRS 17 implementation: Participation in the segment’s involvement in the IFRS 17 project and the transition of reporting into BAU.
    • General – Ensure that all actuarial processes are performed as efficiently as possible, and are compliant with the current risk control environment.

    Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

    • Qualified actuary or actuarial student
    • 4 years’ actuarial experience
    • Strong technical skills
    • Strong detail orientation coupled with the ability to see the “big picture”
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
    • Motivated self-starter who shows initiative, is proactive, looks for ways to improve
    • Able to complete tasks within agreed timelines and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
    • Interest in financial modelling software
    • Ability to plan and prioritise
    • Willing to learn and grow
    • High level of accountability

    The following would also be advantageous:

    • Knowledge of the MFC environment, products and systems
    • Valuation experience
    • Prophet and DCS models experience

    Senior Financial Accountant

    Job Description

    We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant who enjoys technical accounting to join our dynamic team of experts. This role will ensure the accounting of our new businesses, ventures, and partnership deals are accounted for correctly in the Financial records, collaborating with Group technical accounting where necessary. The role will report to and provide a strong business partnership with the Finance Manager for achievement of the overall business objectives.

    Financial Accounting:

    • Manages the financial reporting requirements.
    • Ensures that all financial accounting transactions and provisions are accurately reflected in the Next176 ledgers and that accounting policies are consistently applied in all the financial information prepared by Next176.
    • Responsible for integration of accounting standards and disclosures into the reporting processes and systems of Next176
    • Advising on structuring and accounting consequences of proposed corporate activity
    • Responsible for the Next176 HFM submission and offline schedules to Old Mutual Limited
    • Respond to and manage queries from Group Reporting on internal submissions
    • Responsible for Next176 tax submissions including Provisional tax and Annual returns, the review of VAT returns and deferred tax calculations and ensuring tax compliance
    • Prepare all regulatory submissions
    • Preparation of Next176 audited financials ensuring that disclosures are in accordance with accounting standards, and Companies Act requirements.
    • Audit liaisons as per tax, legislative and statutory requirements ensuring audit preparation is done in advance and requests are responded to adequately
    • Provides commentary on monthly and Quarterly financial results and the implications thereof and advises on corrective action to be taken;
    • Drives & collates monthly submission consisting of reports to venture leads with commentary.

    Control environment:

    • Maintains a strong financial control environment
    • Reviews Balance sheet recons
    • Effects on-going changes to internal controls as necessitated by changes in business and corporate governance.

    Other:

    • Assists in the preparation of annual business plans and quarterly forecasts.

    Qualifications, Skills And Required Experience

    CA(SA) with minimum 2 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in the financial services industry dealing with a variety of financial services products

    • Demonstrated understanding of IFRS and technical application and demonstrated interest in staying up to date with changes in accounting standards
    • A self-starter who is able to take initiative and run and drive issues until they are resolved.
    • Process orientated with the ability to set up new processes and systems or improve existing ones

    Assistant Financial Accountant (4 month contract)

    Job Description

    This role is accountable for the end to end internal and external reporting for subsidiaries of Old Mutual. It includes accounting transactions, reporting, tax calculations and submission.

    Key Result Areas:

    Financial Reporting

    • Compiles and populates records to trial balance level.
    • Prepares draft income statement and balance sheet.

    Reconciliations

    • Ensures accurate reconciliations are done and followed up.
    • Reviews control accounts and reconciliations.

    Specific to the role

    • Perform journals from bank statement movements and other sources
    • Processes journal entries in relation to these entities, timeously and accurately.
    • Performs calculations to determine financial transactions required
    • Ensures that the financial records, including the trail balance is valid, accurate and complete.
    • Performs inter-company reconciliations and confirmation of balances, and corrects mismatches timeously.
    • Reconciliation of all Balance sheet accounts, including bank account, ensuring that reconciling items are constantly monitored and actioned, and that there are no long outstanding reconciling items.

    KEY RESULT AREAS

    Operational Delivery
