    Junior Planner - Johannesburg

    What needs to be done?

    • Develop detailed project schedules that outline tasks, milestones, deadlines as per the Contract and updating and reporting progress and delays on MS Projects or Primavera.
    • Work closely with the Project Manager and liaising with site construction teams and other related professionals regarding schedule related development, progress and risks.
    • Execute turnkey engineering, supply and site installation projects by managing site teams and progress including, sub-contractors and quality. 
    • Reporting to the Project Manager on a daily and or weekly basis and attending Client and Site progress meetings and reporting progress on status and risks to Management.
    • Develop and maintain accurate project reports and documentation such the Overall Progress vs the Planned Baseline Schedule, S-Curves, Critical Path Analysis, One and Two Week Look Ahead,
    • Basis of Schedule, Resource Plans and assist the PM to create time related Early Warnings and Compensation Event documentation to Clients. 
    • Monitor project timelines and make adjustments as needed to ensure contractual completion.
    • Create fast track and or catch-up plans to bring the schedule back on track and or re-baselining of schedules when required and actively managing changes, variations and amendments to contract schedule.
    • Managing contract timelines and communicating with customers in line with conditions under which the contract is established. 
    • Managing subcontractors progress and their activities to complete projects safely, on time and to specification.
    • Occasionally be present on-site during construction as required by the customer during contract execution. 
    • Ensuring safety compliance on project sites and closing projects on time for completion.
    • Compliance: SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls.

    What do you need to bring? 

    • BSc / BEng/ BTech/ NDip in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
    • Project Management Professional Certification would be an advantage.
    • Demonstrated Engineering & Planning Experience in delivering technically challenging projects.
    • Proficient using MS Projects, Primavera P6 and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & Teams)
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing projects schedules.
    • Understanding of project management processes and procedures.
    • Knowledge of NEC and/or FIDIC conditions of contract would be an advantage.
    • Process plant experience would be required.
    • Good negotiation skills.
    • Customer-facing experience and strong communication skills a must.
    • A practical and analytical minded hands-on approach coupled with excellent communication and people skills.
    • A solution orientated attitude with a desire to progress withing the field of engineering and planning.

    Mine Ventilation Engineer - JHB

    What needs to be done?

    • Apply theories and techniques of mine ventilation, mine cooling and safety engineering.
    • Design mine ventilation and related controls to comply with regulations, safety and production requirements.
    • Study and advise on underground mine ventilation and cooling systems’ compliance to requirements.
    • Test air quality in mines for compliance with regulations and standards.
    • Recommend alteration or installation of mine ventilation and mine cooling works.
    • Work in enclosed spaces, conducting surveys, which can often be hot, tiring, dirty and dusty.
    • Collaborate with the Software Team to test, provide technical support, improve and provide feedback for ventilation software products.
    • Conduct ventilation and software training for external customers and clients and internal Howden staff.
    • Be prepared to travel to customer sites.

    What do you need to bring? 

    • Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
    • Degree in mining, mechanical or electrical engineering will be advantageous.
    • Proficient in Ventsim Design software.
    • Proficiency in other ventilation simulation software packages (VUMA) will be advantageous.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in business language and build relationships at all levels.
    • At least 5-10 years’ experience in mine ventilation. Mine Cooling experience would be advantageous.
    • Experienced in mine ventilation engineering.
    • Ability to use mining software and Ventsim software.

    Applications Engineer - JHB

    What needs to be done?

    • Applications Engineering:  Effectively engage customers with applications enquiries. Perform fan selections based on customer specifications. Understand all customer specifications clearly as received with enquiries. Prepare well written and presentable tender documents inclusive of all tender returnable documents. Capture all sales opportunities on CRM including pipeline maintenance. Lead each applications opportunity through the process of tender to order. Drive accurate forecasting of opportunities in the business and ensure customer feedback is always captured, add value to customer engagements.
    • Documentation: Pre-engineer fan system designs and generate fan curves suitable for selections made and to meet customer specifications. Engage with legal and commercial department with the objective of mitigating risks while satisfying client contractual expectations to secure orders. Generate a budget document suitable for project execution. Accurate tender programs and organograms to define full scope and overhead requirements within shortest possible lead times.  Assess contract to ensure compliance with legal, commercial and health and safety requirements to minimize risk to the organization. Generate hand-over documentation following receipt of purchase orders.
    • Engineering Support: Engineering support during tendering phase. Run the actual selections past the engineering team to ensure the best solution and scope of supply is clearly defined, checked, and tested. Assist the engineering team with the latest market and engineering trends to save on cost, design, and time.
    • Project Management: When required act as project manager for various projects to ensure relevant projects meet agreed standards and is delivered within an agreed timeframe.
    • Customer relations: Develop customer relationships to promote the Howden products and services, with a view to introducing enhancements to existing equipment. Work towards early customer involvement by becoming a partner through their respective planning phases by regularly meeting up high level project teams from Customers (end-users), Project Houses, EPCs, and consulting firms. Become a partner in solutions and product supply, to ensure we are well considered at tender stage.
    • Managing Tenders: Adhere to the tender process (enquiry, risks, contracts, costs, and submission of documents) to be accomplished in line with client specifications and in accordance with Howden standards.
    • Marketing:   Contribute to the effective marketing of company products and technologies to ensure the conversion of a tender into a sale conducted in accordance with company procedure.
    • Compliance: SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls.

    What do you need to bring? 

    • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (B-Tech, B-Eng or BSC Eng)
    • Membership of reputable engineering body such as ECSA and/or SAIMechE
    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Projects, and AutoCAD
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a mining or industrial sales environment.
    • Exposure to multiple disciplines of Engineering.
    • Above average general communication skills – spoken and written.
    • Negotiation skills
    • Working knowledge of standard contracting methodologies, preferably NEC & FIDIC.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CFD studies.
    • 2 years’ experience in a project management environment
    • 3 years’ experience in tender preparation
