    Visa Assistant

    Duties

    • The incumbent is responsible for a wide range of nonimmigrant visa (NIV) duties and also serves as (American Citizen Services (ACS) back-up.
    •  He/she has responsibility for reviewing and processing all types of NIV applications.
    •  Responds to inquiries from visa applicants and other interested parties regarding specific visa cases and responds to public inquiries regarding nonimmigrant visa regulations.
    •  He/she assists with staff training and advises the Consular officers about the daily workflow and incorporation of new procedures and equipment when required.  
    • Serves as Consular Cashier.

    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Requirements:
    EXPERIENCE:  

    • Three years of progressively responsible experience in a position of trust (i.e. handling money or sensitive materials) involving application of regulations to individual cases. Prior work experience must involve direct contact with customers.

    Education Requirements:

    Mechanical Maintenance Maintenance Team Lead - Employees of Mission - All/or USEFMs, EFMs, or MOHs

    Duties

    • The incumbent oversees daily operation of the building mechanical engineering systems at the three Embassy Compounds and numerous owned/leased residential properties in Pretoria.  
    • S/He manages workload as per the approved planned maintenance schedule, provides service for repairs, assigns tasks to subordinate staff, performs troubleshooting, and provides hands-on technical guidance to subordinate staff.
    •  Incumbent is directly supervised by the Residential Maintenance Supervisor.
    • S/He inspects work of planned maintenance, repairs, special projects and contractors to ensure compliance with requirements.  
    • Building engineering systems maintained by incumbent include HVAC, Plumbing, Fuel & Oil supply, and Physical Security equipment.  
    • S/He assists the maintenance staff at the Consulates in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town.
    • S/He performs scheduled after-hours duty for 24/7 emergencies.


    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Requirements:
    EXPERIENCE:

    • Four years of progressively responsible experience in operation and maintenance of building mechanical services in commercial and/or residential and/or government buildings.  
    • One (1) year of progressively responsible experience supervisory experience is required.
       

    Education Requirements:

    • Successful completion of high school (12th grade) is required.
    •  Successful completion of three years of local technical college / trade school where the N3 and Red Seal Certifications are earned OR an associate degree in either electrical or mechanical trade are required.

    Human Resources Clerk

    Duties

    • The position is located in the Human Resources (HR) Office at the front desk and as such, requires the incumbent to be professional to greet and assist all visitors and callers to the office. Incumbent will be the customer service provider for all walk-ins to the HR section as well as answering phone inquiries transferred by the switchboard. Provides assistance with basic functions including but not limited to handling paper flow, preparing routine documents, logistics for events, and assuring that information is properly shared between different sections of the HR office.

    Plumber

    Duties
    The incumbent will complete assigned tasks within the allotted time established in the Collaborative Management Initiative (CMI) service standards, and according to International Building Code (IBC) standards.  The incumbent specializes in plumbing and mechanical systems operation and maintenance.    Systems include, but are not limited to; water supply and storage, filtration, disinfection and other water treatments, hot water systems and equipment, piping, tubing, fittings and controls, irrigation, domestic plumbing fixtures including waterless urinals, drainage, sanitary systems, on-site sewage treatment, and storm water management.

    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Requirements:
    EXPERIENCE:  

    A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a journey-level plumber in the repair and maintenance of plumbing/mechanical systems in commercial or industrial facilities is required. 

    Must have experience working with PVC, CPVC, copper, galvanized, concrete, and black pipe; circulation and well pumps, and water treatment equipment.


    JOB KNOWLEDGE:  

    • The incumbent is required to have a thorough, technical understanding of major building plumbing/mechanical systems and equipment, with a specialty in plumbing systems.  
    • Familiarization with general mechanical systems, including domestic hot and cold water piping systems, wastewater piping systems and vent stacks, storm water management systems, chilled water systems, water treatment facilities, swimming pool equipment, fire suppression systems, compressed air systems, and irrigation systems is required.
    •  Familiarization with the many different types of pipe and fittings (PVC and CPVC, copper, galvanized, concrete, black, etc.) is required.
    •  Must know how to diagnose the root cause of a problem and what materials and equipment will be needed to facilitate repairs.  
    • Must know how to work safely on equipment, systems and associated components including the use of lock-out / tag-out safety measure.  
    • Knowledge of IBC standards, and fire and life safety codes is required.  

    Education Requirements:
    Mandatory: 

    • Completion of secondary school is required.
    • Completion of vocational training program from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level plumbers and mechanical system specialist trained in the maintenance of commercial or industrial buildings/facilities is required.
    •  Training through a recognized apprenticeship program provided by a trade union is considered acceptable.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • The incumbent must be skilled at reading and interpreting technical documents including layout drawings, as-built drawings, riser diagrams, equipment schedules, operations and maintenance manuals, and other manufacturer’s literature.
    •  The incumbent shall have the skills and abilities in the following areas: diagnosing and repairing filtration systems, water pumps, hot and cold water systems; testing potable water system components, monitoring of chemical and salt injection systems, and taking equipment readings with various meters; use of hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools to determine appropriate repairs.
    •  Additional skills include installation and repair to the various types of plumbing pipe such as PVC and CPVC, copper, galvanized, concrete, and black pipe; distinguishing frequencies and sounds, color codes and odors in the operation of equipment in order to troubleshoot for repairs.
    •  Additional abilities include responding to emergency situations in an efficient and timely manner to effect immediate repairs; work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, on ladders at various heights, and in temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments; communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, contractors and vendors to obtain and provide pertinent information.
    • Must be computer literate, able to navigate through the Microsoft Office Suite software including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point; able to draft reports and create spreadsheets, and able to write e-mails and research information on the Internet.
    •  A valid driver’s license is required.  
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to handle a large workload and multiple tasks.  Must be organized.

    Travel and Training Assistant

    Duties

    • Serving as one of two staff members in the Travel, Visitors, and Conference Unit (TVU), the incumbent coordinates logistics, support, and direction for all conferences and trainings hosted in Johannesburg. Also responsible for all necessary travel arrangements for DOS and other agencies assigned to the Consulate, as well as visiting Embassy personnel, official/TDY visitors, Front Office staff, and VIPs. S/he works under the direct supervision of the Travel and Training Coordinator.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of two years of experience in a Travel / Tourism / Conferencing / Hospitality environment is required.
