    Logistics Business Intelligence Manager

    The purpose of this role is to develop the architecture and capability for KPI reporting across Group Logistics & ensuring the availability of reliable data to enable strategic insights. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring real time reporting on DC Operations, facilitated through the National Operations Centre (NOC).

    FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Data Management

    • Provide data management services for the Group Logistics domain.
    • Engage with stakeholders across the Group, to understand master data sources & practices.
    • Work with Data management & IT teams to create and maintain a medium to channel relevant data from the Chains to drive logistics reporting & analytics.
    • Provide input to data quality deliverables, conduct root cause analysis into anomalies & provide feedback to master data governance teams.
    • Implement data cleansing and improvement techniques on Massmart Logistics hosted data
    • Make recommendation on new metrics, attributes, datasets, etc to support business intelligence requirements.

    Reporting – visual analytics & dynamic dashboards

    • Responsible to turn millions of rows of data into powerful & meaningful insights.
    • Design, develop & execute reports & dashboards for Group Logistics KPIs
    • Setup & maintain the reports & dashboards driving the digital control tower (aka National Operations Centre).
    • Analyze & interpret the data structures on relevant systems (Triceps, POM SAP) to extract and report on compliance and
    • control indicators, tracking key elements of the Massmart Logistics service delivery framework.
    • Optimize reporting through use of cubes & OLAP. Schedule & Automate the distribution of reports.
    • Develop plans for improving Business Intelligence at Massmart Supply Chain.

    Development of AI & IOT for Logistics Operations

    •  Engage & partner with service providers to implement equipment and labour tagging to generate plant analytics, performance analysis and warehouse layout optimization
    • Identify key predictive indicators and create metrics/ parameters to enable pre-emptive modelling

    Transport Junior Operations Manager

    Managing of daily operational transport activity (primary inbound, xdock, secondary) through liaison with relevant RDC outbound, distribution staff, and haulers and ensuring vehicle availability at least cost.
    FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensure that Vendors plan and place orders according to agreed principles
    • Counter Check final Vendor transport order requirements
    • Configure orders for maximum transport efficiency
    • Provide guidance to Vendor’s Planning teams to ensure specific outcomes ( i.e. transport optimization, asset utilization)

    Optimize Inbound Crossdock Volumes

    • Source & Plan Crossdock collections at external Vendors where applicable
    • Ensure on-time arrival of vehicles
    • Manage collection process by ensuring the number of pallets is loaded versus ordered quantities
    • Manage the turnaround time of vehicles
    • Ensure on-time arrival at Crossdock facilities
    • Monitor outbound Crossdock movements to ensure Nominated Delivery Days (NDD) are met

    Optimize Direct Load

    • Execution
    • Source & Plan and schedule direct collections and deliveries
    • Liase with execution agents daily to ensure stores are informed of what orders are en route or any issues encountered.
    • Ensure on-time arrival of vehicles
    • Manage collection process by ensuring the number of pallets is loaded versus ordered quantities
    • Manage the turnaround time of vehicle
    • Ensure on-time arrival at stores and reasons for delays are correctly recorded via execution agents
    • Select the most economical Transporter as per the “Preferred Transport Supplier” list
    • Follow up with transporters on queried loads and provide concise and accurate feedback
    • Daily liaison with outbound RDC team, Massmart execution agents and transporters
    • Optimize Truck Fill Ratios
    • Ensure vehicle load configurations deliver the optimal load/volume efficiency per delivery
    • Ensure that both DC and Crossdock Stock receive equal priority (where applicable)
    • Work with Planners, DC Outbound Team and transporters to generate common efficiency

    Planning

    • Cross-functional team member with an ability to plan inbound, secondary in TMS when required 
    • Peak planning involvement and securing of additional capacity at least cost
    • Input into monthly fleet requirement planning

    General / Administration

    • Daily, weekly and monthly recording of transport data and preparation of transport KPI’s and liaise with Transport
    • Administrator
    • Provide operational feedback to TMS Planners through planned vs actual and operational constraints
    • Transporter Liaison and negotiation (Adhoc requirements and rates)
    • Claim Investigations and settlement
    • Maintaining Master Haulier Rate Sheet
    • Ensure fuel compliance by MTS team and transporters
    • General Maintenance of Transporter Files
    • Adhoc load quoting and execution
    • Transport rate determination and transporter agreements negotiated
    • Be the first point of Massmart Transport escalation and ensure visibility to Transport Manager on all escalations

    Requirements:

     

    • Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications & Experience required for this position

    Qualifications:

    • Matriculation, some Tertiary Education in a logistics & transport field

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Transport and Logistics
