    Lecturers in Mathematics Post No: 0652,0656 & 0666

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Lecturing Mathematics at NQF 5,6 & 7 to students in Applied Sciences and Engineering
    • Capability of developing computer-interactive teaching and learning material.
    • Use the Blackboard Learning Management System for interactive online tuition.
    • Be innovative in restructuring the mathematics curriculum to be career oriented through consultation with curriculum coordinators of the different programmes.
    • Continuously be able to learn applicability of Mathematics principles in the various career- oriented programmes.
    • Engage-in and participate in intra / inter-departmental research endeavours.
    • Compile appropriate assessments to evaluate students’ mastery of the subject matter.
    • Perform any related administrative functions to support teaching, learning, research, and community engagement in accordance with VUT strategy 2033+ 

    Application Criteria:

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Master of Science in Pure or Applied Mathematics.
    • Two(2) years’ experience in teaching at tertiary level or industry related experience.

    Recommendations

    • Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics/Pure Mathematics or Mathematics Education
    • Membership with relevant statutory professional bodies, e.g. SACNASP.
    • Experience in the utilisation of e-learning platforms
    • Research publication in DHET accredited Journals Skills And Competencies:

    Lecturer (Clinical Pathology) Post No: 2283

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Teaching and coordinating theory and practical subject as delegated by the head of department.
    • Providing academic support to students.
    • Engaging in relevant research project.
    • Participating in Faculty and Department community engagement projects.
    • Liaising with industry and other stakeholders to improve the quality and standards of services delivered and keeping abreast of developments in the relevant field.
    • Managing personal, department, academic administration.
    • Coordinating and conducting formative and summative assessment
    • Curriculum development
    • Attending various department and faculty meetings
    • Attending to full classes as well as part time classes where a need arises
    • Developing study materials for students, including review of learner guides and notes

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • For Lecturer: Masters in Biomedical Technology (M+5) or Equivalent
    • Currently registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist with specialisation in Clinical Pathology
    • At least two (2) years’ experience as a Medical Technology/ Scientist post registration with HPCSA
    • Relevant research experience will be an advantage. Skills And Competencies:

    Lecturer: Law Post No: 5026

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Teaching and coordinating subjects as delegated by the head of department.
    • Providing academic support to learners.
    • Participating in national and/or international conferences and producing accredited research outputs.
    • Participating in departmental community engagement flagship projects.
    • Participating in subject advisory committee meetings.
    • Liaising with industry and other stakeholders to improve the quality and standard of services delivered and keeping abreast of developments in the legal field.
    • Compiling and offering relevant short courses.
    • Developing new Law qualifications.

    • A minimum of two years teaching at tertiary level, or industrial/practice experience.

    Research Professor Post No: 1257

    Key performance areas include but are not limited to:

    • Assist Postgraduate students in proposal writing.
    • Provide research guidance to postgraduate staff and students in obtaining vertical qualification.
    • Co-ordinate the Post Graduate induction programme and conduct annually 3 postgraduate supervision workshops for staff and postgraduate students in collaboration with the Research Directorate
    • Arrange and conduct annual strategic faculty research workshops.
    • Organise and facilitate research colloquiums and serve on institutional research committees.
    • Target and source research funding opportunities institutionally, regionally, and internationally – includes core funding agency funding; competitive funding; formula-based funding: contract funding and third-stream income.
    • Generation of state subsidy through the production of recognised research outputs by staff and students
    • Provide leadership in the development of the faculty’s research focus areas.
    • Produce relevant accredited research outputs annually.
    • Present papers at targeted national and international conferences
    • Maintaining the faculty knowledge management system to support research and development.
    • Facilitating commercialization of research outputs, in line with the VUT and national imperatives
    • Education and exposure of staff and students to research related to downstream activities and transfer of knowledge.
    • Supervising master’s and doctoral students
    • Engaging in local, national, and international research networks
    • Training of supervisors; and extended research networks and partnerships across departments and faculties, institutions, industries, and countries (e.g., FRIC, Ethics Committee etc). 
    • Member of Editorial Board 

    APPLICATION CRITERIA:

    Qualification and Experience:

    • An appropriate Doctoral degree in one of the Human Science Fields (Hospitality, Tourism, PR Management, Legal, Education, Visual Arts or Communication) or any other related field, with at least five years of research management experience
    • Sound research track record including publications in accredited journals and conference papers is a requirement.
    • Industrial or related experience and/or supervision of postgraduate students
    • A high level of disciplinary expertise; and Statistical Literacy
    • Fulfil the VUT requirements of a full professorship
