    Projects Manager

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The primary responsibility of the Project Manager is to execute the capital plan assigned to her/him within agreed and approved scope budget, schedule, and quality parameters.

    DECISION MAKING

    • Complex and risky decisions that could impact the success of an entire division/ business unit.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK        

    • Is responsible for the safe design and implantation of technology within approved schedule, budget, and quality parameters across the Smelter and Site Services area.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:              

    • Budget establishment and submission based on projects that are scoped and costed according to the user requirement.
    • Budget accuracy - specification and as set out by the customer.
    • Budget adherence - manage costs by ensuring that approved annual project budgets are adhered to and that costing is as efficient as possible.
    • Scope completeness - ensuring cost efficiency and accuracy of components, also add technical input where required.
    • System compliance - work with the Procurement Department to ensure compliance with necessary tendering and procurement processes at Rand Refinery.
    • Ensure that the technical solutions provided, enable targeted plant efficiency and productivity.
    • Technical solutions - consider maintenance requirements that facilitate effective repairs and maintenance.
    • Establish technical solutions which enhance plant reliability and plant efficiency and total cost of ownership.
    • Overhead cost reduction - Continuous improvement of systems and processes by identifying and suggesting alternative solutions that increase throughput, reduce utility consumption, and the maintenance effort.
    • SHEQ management by ensuring that equipment, machinery, people and products are protected from risk and harm.
    • Identify hazards promptly and attend to the accordingly.
    • Adhering to all legislative requirements - (SHEQ manager feedback, manager feedback, no LTI's, near miss reporting).
    • Adhering to all internal SHEQ standards and requirements - (SHEQ manager feedback, manager feedback, no LTls, near miss reporting).
    • Conducts risk assessments for ail solutions that are provided to ensure that standards are maintained, and risk is minimised for staff, equipment, product, and the company - Zero LTl, MTI or similar incidents.
    • Incident reporting - training is to be provided for all technology that is provided that varies in any way from procedure or is new.
    • 360-Degree reporting - effectively manage the contractors in line with the SHEQ the Project structure. Have no labour disputes or unresolved disciplinary matters related to performance and delivery to customer.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • Tertiary qualification (Degree, Diploma or National Certificate) in Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation and/or Automation.
    • General knowledge related to all fields within the Engineering discipline, which includes but is not limited to Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who are certified as Project Management Professions or other Advanced Management Certification.
    • More than 5 years' experience in the Projects field, of which at least 2 years must be in a formal Project Management role.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Knowledge of computerised Project Management systems.
    • Advanced computer literacy in MS Office and SAP reporting.

    Operator: Blending

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The purpose of this role is to execute and to ensure that SHEQ and quality standards are practiced. The Blending Operator is to work directly beneath the Smelter Blending Foreman.

    Executes the role of collecting bags to blend all the bags according to the charge list.

    DECISION MAKING

    • Problems are resolved by reference to established procedures. Problems outside of established procedures are referred upwards.

    DIVERSITY OF WORK    

    To assist with administrative duties, SHERQ requirements as well as skills transfer to maximise operational multi-tasking.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:       

    • Blending the charge according to the recipe in order to ensure that the melting can be obtained at the furnace.
    • Ensure that materials and fluxes are collected, and homogeneity is maintained so that material blended on the floor is according to the charge calculator.
    • Silos are always full as required by arc furnace. Their material transfer to silos is defined and accurate, and stock levels are monitored. Charges are to be blended in time.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards at the Smelter plant.
    • Ensure that all by-products generated are weighed and sent for sampling for metal balance purposes.
    • Participation during stock count to ensure correct labelling and proper evaluation of units. No written-off bags found during stock count.
    • Crushing of materials for sampling and evaluation.
    • Will be required to work shifts.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed matric qualification.
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have at least 2 years’ work experience in a smelting/operational environment.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Can apply knowledge and skills required to perform a variety of primarily manual tasks.
    • Computer literacy –MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) SAP, Internet.
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written) to communicate technical knowledge to others.

    Senior Operator

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The purpose of this role is to ensure all shipments are prepared and packed as per customer requirements and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance for both local and international markets.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • 3 – 5 years’ of work experience in a similar role/environment.
    • A National Certificate or National Diploma in Supply Chain Management/ Logistics would serve as an added advantage.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Compliance with International and local civil aviation training requirements for packing and shipping dangerous goods.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manual packaging of finished product after the completion of the quality process. This includes the following types of products:
    • Minted bars.
    • Minted coins.
    • Blank coins.
    • Blank minted bars.
    • Granules.
    • Cast bars.
    • Wires.
    • Discs.
    • Solutions.
    • Operate machinery to sort, weigh and pack products – where applicable.
    • Prepare boxes for products – this includes and is not limited to:
    • Stamping boxes with unique serial number as per instruction from FSD Supervisor/FSD Foreman.
    • Verify and record gross weights of all packaged product.
    • Accurately record details of labels – manual or printer.
    • Correct strapping and sealing of items in compliance with CAA requirements.
    • Correct placement of any additional tamper evident items.
    • Follow correct format of strapping and sealing of every product.
    • Highlight discrepancies to Supervisor/Foreman as soon as problem identified.
    • Label boxes as per standard operating procedures (SOP) for that product.
    • Keep accurate records of all products prepared, packaged and sent to FSD.
    • Complete packaging orders within the deadlines.
    • Clean work area and machines at end of every shift.
    • Perform packaging operations as per FSD instruction.
    • Operate machinery effectively to avoid accidents.
    • Ensure that machines are working properly and safely.
    • Complete daily reports and submit to Supervisor.
    • Load bags and boxes on pallets manually as needed or with a forklift.
    • Modify packaging and weigh bags/boxes to meet customer specifications.
    • Notify supervisor about equipment and packaging problems.
    • Receiving finished product from Fabrication and Refinery for packaging to be sent to the Final Storage and Dispatch.
    • Check and verify product received from internal and external suppliers against SAP, with specific attention to the weight and serial numbers of products and associated boxes.
    • Complies with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
    • The incumbent is required to adhere to safety standards, work shifts and lift heavy material.

    Quality Control Supervisor

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The Quality Control Supervisor is accountable for supervising the Quality Control activities of the department which includes inspecting the final products with the aim of meeting the prescribed quality standards within Rand Refinery.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor all maintenance aspects within the department and perform placements and follow-up of maintenance job cards as required.
    • Communicate performance against accurate standards and budgets for management.
    • Provides timeous and accurate quality reports.
    • Assists in undertaking cost improvement studies to identify root cause of issues relating to reliability, waste and efficiencies.
    • Plans appropriate employee training and development, in order to ensure continued and smooth operation of the department.
    • Analyse quality data logsheets based on the daily/ shift reject results and monitor trends, reject rate etc.
    • Coordinate duties for the Quality team in order to comply with ISO 9001:2015 standards and practices.
    • Assist in supporting production to improve quality of bars produced to have 9999 kilo bar reject rate to less than 10%.
    • Write, update and format Standard Operating Procedures and manuals for Quality department.
    • Coordinate and develop the relevant documentation i.e. Technical Note, Final Reports, Monthly reports for and from investigations and daily operation conducted in the Quality department.
    • Assessing customer requirements and ensuring that these are met.
    • Assessing if internal customers is following own procedures etc.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • A completed Certificate or Diploma in Quality Management or any QMS related studies.
    • Must have at least acquired 5 years of work experience within a Quality Control related role.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    • Full proficiency with the Microsoft package and SAP.
    • Being able to use the following computer software would serve as an advantage:
    • IsoMetrix.
    • Statistical software.
    • MS Project.

    Quality Control Manager

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    The position is required to manage and co-ordinate the activities (conducting tests, analysing measurements, oversee in-line production quality processes, set visual product standards and verify final product quality) of the Fabrication (Quality) Department.

    • Open-ended decisions or recommendations which require detailed research and analysis, where the success of the outcome may not be known for some time after making the decision.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Understand and interpret international product requirements to develop relevant product quality standards for all RR products delivered into the market.
    • Inspection of products using gauges, callipers, micrometres, hardness testers, light reflection and other techniques and equipment.
    • Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments.
    • Continuously monitoring of consumable stock in the Quality department and replenish on a timeously manner when needed.
    • Obtaining quotes and order consumables or other equipment on SAP.
    • Physical stock counting of material between Quality and Fabrication after inspection.  Investigate if there is any discrepancies and report accordingly to management.
    • Monitor all maintenance aspects within the department and perform placements and follow-up of maintenance job cards as required.
    • Communicate performance against accurate standards and budgets for management.
    • Provides timeous and accurate quality reports.
    • Assists in undertaking cost improvement studies to identify root cause of issues relating to reliability, waste and efficiencies.
    • Formulate new product development requirements on behalf of a new customer/product in liaison with the Product Development Manager.
    • Attend production meetings and address potential in-efficiencies through collaborative work with an aim of improving results.
    • Coordinate the allocated budget.
    • Complete budget book for the quality by collaborating with foreman’s and clerks. The budget should give pointers for achieving profits.
    • Work closely with the HOD on the development of production strategies to deliver on the business strategy.
    • Provide technical direction and guidance for process development and technology strategies.
    • Work with technical assurance team to ensure that the fabrication has the latest standards for evaluation and use the best technic for the materials.
    • Develop, establish, and direct execution of operating procedures to support overall company.
    • Ensure full legal and controls compliance of all aspects of the department (machinery, site, materials, project, safety, health, environment).
    • Monitoring and visible business performance reporting (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).
    • Evaluates process feasibility hazop, environmental impact, economic and value evaluation studies.
    • May prepare recommendations for capital expenditure for projects relevant to product quality requirements.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • Tertiary degree in Chemical/Process or Metallurgical Engineering.
    • Must have acquired 5 – 8 years of working experience within a related role, whereby at least 3 years was acquired from having served at supervisory level.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    •  Advanced proficiency in computer literacy (MS office –Outlook, Word, Excel, SAP)
    • Good communicating skills (verbal and written).
    • Effective conflict management skills.
    • Risk Management- Able to identify, manage and mitigate risks at source of the material and the supply chain.
    • Team management- Be able to handle a diverse team and be able to lead and/or be a team player in a team that would deliver results for the department and Rand Refinery
    • Trouble shooting skills- Able to diagnose and analyse process problems in plants.
    • Negotiating skills - Able to firmly but fairly negotiate with suppliers and customers at all levels, both locally and internationally.
    • Report writing skills - Able to produce reports that are timely, accurate, concise, and relevant.
    • Metallurgical management and properties knowledge and experience
    • Processes and procedure applicable to role performed under the guidance of HOD.
    • Ability to keep accurate records.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment to ensure delivery requirements.
