    Finance Administrator (Post Level 10)

    Duties/Pligte

    Managing AVReQ's Budget:

    • Managing and overseeing AVReQ's annual operational budget.
    • Administrating and loading all remuneration for contract staff and tutors.
    • Preparing and submitting regular budget forecasts based on AVReQ's planned activities and strategic objectives.
    • Assisting AVReQ's management team with strategic financial planning.
    • Making national and international travel arrangements for staff and associates.
    • Identifying and booking caterers for AVReQ events.
    • Processing all financial transactions (including purchase orders, invoices, and research income and interest on funds).
    • Capturing all financial information in compliance with SU's system and keeping up to date with changes in SU's financial systems and policies.
    • Providing administrative and financial support for the preparation of financial reports for grant funders.
    • Facilitating creating cost centres for opening and closing grant accounts.
    • Capturing and processing scholarships, bursaries, and stipends for AVReQ's students and postdoctoral fellows.
    • Ensuring accurate and timely disbursement of scholarship funds, in liaison with the University's Postgraduate Office and Student Fees Division.
    • Responding to queries from students and postdocs regarding their scholarship payments.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

    • A relevant administration qualification (e.g. National Diploma or equivalent).
    • At least three to five years' relevant experience in financial administration within a higher education or research environment, preferably at Stellenbosch University.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of SU's financial systems, NRF funding systems, or other higher education environments.
    • Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
    • Attention to detail in entering and checking financial information to ensure accuracy.
    • Proficiency in SU's financial management systems, Microsoft Excel, and other relevant office software.
    • Excellent planning, prioritisation, and time management skills.
    • Problem-solving skills and capacity for proactive approach to identifying discrepancies and knowing which departments to consult in the SU finance structure to resolve discrepancies.

    Engineer (Post Level 8)

    Duties/Pligte

    The appointed engineer will be expected to:

    • Assist and support the chair holder in the running of the chair.
    • Solve railway engineering problems by executing relevant research and development projects, and thereby increase the rail body of knowledge in South Africa.
    • Contribute to the rail academic fraternity by disseminating knowledge gained from the research by means of seminars and conferences.
    • Publish high-quality research articles and reviews in international and local peer-reviewed academic journals, conferences and other appropriate forms of research output.
    • Establish and build networks within the Faculty, University, locally and internationally.
    • Promote railway engineering studies in the broader academic community, beyond the Faculty.
    • Promote and conduct community projects in order to stimulate young learners to pursue careers in engineering.

    • An appropriate B.Eng in the fields of either Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer or compliance with the criteria for registration as Professional Engineer.

    Lecturer

    Duties/Pligte

    • Teaching and administration of undergraduate chemical engineering modules.
    • Executing fundamental and applied research, focused on broadening the Department's research activities in current areas of interest to the Department of Chemical Engineering.
    • Supervision of final year research projects as well as postgraduate researchers in one of the research areas listed in the description above.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

    • An applicable, four-year bachelor's degree (such as BEng or BScEng) in Chemical Engineering from a reputable university, recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa to qualify for registration as a Professional Engineer.
    • A doctoral degree in chemical engineering from a reputable university, with a research topic related to areas of relevance to the Department of Chemical Engineering.
    • An excellent academic track-record.
    • The ability to teach courses and modules as part of a typical undergraduate chemical engineering programme.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least English, with a good ability to communicate clearly and to present lectures in a structured manner.
    • Good interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to work effectively, independently as well as within a team.
    • Previous tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, or technical / research experience in industry in a relevant field of expertise.

    Junior Engineer (Post Level 9)

    Duties/Pligte

    • As a Junior Engineer at The Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) at Stellenbosch University (SU), the incumbent will be responsible for performing engineering analysis and modelling related to the integration of renewable energy sources into power grids.
    • The role involves using power system simulation tools, modelling renewable energy resources, analysing grid performance, and presenting results in various formats.
    • The engineer will contribute to technical report writing, academic publications, presentation, and visual communication of data.
    • Additionally, the role includes participation in workshops and supporting project activities.
    • Performing grid modelling and simulation using DIgSILENT PowerFactory

    Conducting:

    Sport Club Manager

    Duties/Pligte

    Strategic Leadership and Management

    • Supporting the Vision, Mission and Values of Maties Sport at all times with appropriate annual plans and performances of competitive teams.
    • Leading the delivery of all internal sport programme management, events, and internal competition fixtures.
    • Managing the club's facilities maintenance and logistics in collaboration with SU Facility Management.
    • Leading sustainable club governance and ensuring adherence of club-members and supporters to SU's and Maties Sport's code of conduct.
    • Representing Maties Sport at meetings of committees and/or associations for sport, both internally and externally and where applicable.

    Administration
