    Editor (Regional Reporter) - Cape Town

    Main purpose of the post

    Oversee and manage the writing and editing of copy, as well as the layout of print and digital publications, to remain competitive in collaboration with the relevant departments to create a product that is focused and market related and in tune with the community.

    Main Duties:

    (The primary duties, functions and outputs of the position)

    • Conceptualize and implement the editorial vision;
    • Determine the quality, style and tone of the printed newspaper and website;
    • Develop and implement editorial policy;
    • Lead, motivate, mentor and inspire the team around the editorial vision;  
    • Ensure readership targets are achieved (regardless of external market factors) by leading all aspects of editorial planning; collaborate with other departments to ensure dynamic and strategic knowledge of the readers and the market;
    • Understand readers by continuously evaluating feedback and comments, while tracking, evaluating and applying global trends;
    • Identify, evaluate and edit news in accordance with the target market and type of publication;
    • Make sure the publication is in accordance with legislation and the Press Code of South Africa and that no defamatory content, letters, etc., are published;
    • Coordinate daily news meetings with the team so that deadlines are met and community news is fed to the main newspapers and online platform;
    • Train journalists in the style of the publication;
    • Make sure copy is delivered within the deadlines and meets the standards; rejects copy that is not up to par or meets the brief;
    • Oversee and communicate the production process to ensure all deadlines are met;
    • Communicate with management, the advertising and marketing department to ensure the best product possible is published weekly;
    • Promote commercial opportunities in collaboration with the advertising department;
    • Work with the marketing team on reader and industry events to create loyalty for your product and on innovative ways to connect with readers;
    • Represent the publication in a credible, professional and ethical manner, and
    • Manage and control editorial budget and costs.

    Qualification

    An appropriate tertiary qualification in journalism or media studies.  

    Experience

    • Five years of work experience in an editorial environment.
    • Two years in a senior position.

    • A thorough knowledge of newspaper production and the news environment;
    • Well-developed writing and sub-skills in the specific languages;
    • Computer literate in the relevant programs and applications;
    • A thorough understanding of the publication's target market;
    • Expertise in media law.
    • Good and established contacts and network in the community and region.

    Sports Reporter- Cape Town

    Responsibilities include the following:

    • Gathering and writing sports reports, with the main focus on club sports.
    • Writing feature articles
    • Writing about cricket (Western Province, Boland and Proteas)
    • Building extensive contacts in the communities in the newspaper's distribution area.
    • General liaison with public and newsmakers
    • Expanding correspondent network
    • Translation of sports reports
    • Must be comfortable taking own photos

    Requirements

    • Matric or equivalent qualification
    • Diploma or degree in Journalism
    • The suitable candidate is a trained journalist with a particular interest in sport and the world around him/her.
    • The successful candidate must have a strong news sense.
    • In addition, he/she is self-motivated and goal-oriented, shows initiative and can act independently.
    • Subbing and translation skills would be a plus.
    • A valid driver's license is a requirement.
    • Must have at least four years of experience in a newsroom
    • Sports reporting experience would be beneficial

    Fullstack Developer - Cape Town

    What will you do?

    As a Developer, you will be working in an agile environment alongside a dynamic and multi-skilled team to deliver sound technical solutions based on the needs of the business and users across the web and mobile space.  Using MVC, React and Xamarin Native frameworks, you will write software that supports and extends warehousing and logistical software.

    What should you have?

    • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, IT or Informatics preferred

    Office Manager - Cape Town

    Main purpose of the role:
    Responsible and accountable for ensuring the smooth functioning of the office, through overseeing all administrative functions including contracting, payments, coordinating operations, vendor and freelance administration.

    Requirements:

    • Certificate, Degree or Diploma in Administration would be advantageous.
    • Minimum of 5 years working experience as an office manager or related position.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS Outlook, in particular). SAP knowledge is advantageous.
    • Familiar with financial accounting processes and procedures. Bookkeeping experience is advantageous.
    • Excellent project management and administrative skills.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Serve as the point person for office manager duties including ordering of supplies, parking etc.
    • Maintain the office condition and arrange necessary repairs.
    • Partner with the different divisions, such as HR, Finance and Payroll to update and maintain office policies as necessary.
    • Organize office operations and procedures.
    • Designs and implements office policies by establishing standards and procedures, measuring results against standards, and making necessary adjustments.
    • Ensure very effective file management via MS Teams.
    • Responsible for vendor registration on Media24 services.
    • Inform new vendors of all the documents to be submitted, and check to ensure that the info has been correctly supplied.
    • Responsible for new employee registration to load as vendors for advances requests and travel allowances.
    • Ensure all freelancers are registered and all invoices are submitted on the due dates (monthly & weekly invoices).
    • Process all supplier invoicing on SAP, and ensure all projects allocations are done.
    • Responsible for all Producers contracts for commissioned shows.
    • Reconciliation of monthly Producer payments.
    • Manage the Channel (VIA) playlisting / ad schedules / sponsorship documents.
    • For VIA – checking the daily channel logs and updating the Nielsen Schedule and Cherry Picks.
    • Assist with the credit card recons for POP24, the production division of Media24 TV.
    • Work closely with the POP24 Project Leaders and Head of Operations to ensure all invoices are submitted and approved.

    Digital Marketing Specialist - Cape Town

    What the job entails

    You would work within our client-facing team crafting digital content marketing strategies for specific clients, producing content for clients and taking the lead on social media management, paid media, and SEO. This is a multi-faceted role that calls for brainstorming content ideas and writing engaging copy for social media, as well as an award-winning online blog. As part of the role, you will also have the opportunity to take ownership of the content we create for one of our internal client accounts within the Media24 stable.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Content strategy and creation: Work closely with our editorial team to write compelling content for various digital channels.
    • Social media management: Develop, execute, and manage social media strategies, creating engaging and compelling content, and monitoring performance metrics. You will take ownership of social media schedules as per the content plan for best performance.
    • Paid media: Plan, implement, and optimise paid advertising campaigns on platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and more to drive conversions and ROI.
    • SEO optimisation: Idea generation and content planning with SEO at the forefront. Support the editorial team with a monthly keywords report to inform strategic content planning.
    • Client communication: Build strong relationships with clients, serving as the main point of contact. Understand their objectives, provide regular updates, and offer strategic recommendations.
    • Staying current: Keep up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to ensure our teams – and clients – stay ahead in the digital landscape.

    What should you have?

    • Four to five years’ experience in a digital marketing role within a content marketing or similar agency environment.
    • A relevant tertiary qualification.
    • A deep understanding of how to connect with audiences on META platforms, as well as LinkedIn and YouTube – and how to craft and promote content for the best results.
    • SEO experience.
    • Experience in delivering digital marketing solutions to clients.
    • Experience with medical or healthcare content would be advantageous
    • An enthusiasm for podcasts and a ‘podcasting’ voice would be a big plus.
