    Lead Risk & Compliance

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of this role is to supervise the safe and efficient execution of Mining Operations.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in Safety Management with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mining or Heavy industry environment of which at least 2 year in a supervisory capacity;
    • Chamber of Mines Safety Officer Certificate (COMSOC I & II) is essential;
    • Risk Management Qualification is essential;
    • Previous experience as 12.1 appointee would be advantageous;
    • Experience in OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 Implementation and Auditing is essential;
    • Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Projects) is essential;
    • Expert knowledge and understanding of safety management systems and HSEC related legislation is essential;
    • Valid Code A driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of the Safety, Health, Environment, Community and Quality (HSEQ) Management System (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 19001);
    • Develop, revise and implement HSEC project plans in line with the HSE strategy;
    • Conduct HSEC Management System reviews;
    • Plan and facilitate HSEC Management System reviews;
    • Monitor and control the HSEC Visitor Induction Programme;
    • Contribute to strategies and plans for Material risk reduction;
    • Participate in high level Risk Assessments and facilitate and assist with Risk Assessments.

    Operator Crane

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to safely operate the mobile crane.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 10 for internal employees or Matric/Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science for external candidates with a of 1-year minimum experience in operating mobile crane in a mining environment;
    • Valid Mobile Crane license is essential;
    • Valid Code 14 driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Lift and move a load in suspension using a mobile crane;
    • Dispose of waste products in line with applicable regulations;
    • Conduct continuous hazard identification and risk assessment within a workplace.

    Auto Electrician

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of the role is to be responsible for timely installation, repair and maintenance of equipment to ensure that mining activities are executed in a safe manner as well as operate equipment and tests all working parts in functional area to ensure proper utilization.  

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Matric/Grade 12 with mathematics and Science together with a N3 Technical Certificate for external candidates or N2 Technical Certificate for internal employees and an Auto Electrician Trade Test with a minimum of 2 years’ technical experience on surface mobile mining equipment;
    • In depth knowledge and understanding of VIMS systems, CAT electronic Technician (ET) and the starting & charging systems components and operations is essential;
    • In depth knowledge of earthmoving equipment is essential;
    • Workshop exposure which includes rebuilding of machines, wiring systems, fault finding and repairs to electrical circuits is essential;
    • Valid Code 08 Driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Interprets and coordinates pre-work with regards to repairs, planned and predictive maintenance;
    • Accesses any area safely to perform necessary maintenance on machines or equipment;
    • Performs safety inspections of equipment and assesses risks on equipment;
    • Maintains a clean and safe worksite;
    • Ensures the upkeep of maintenance tools and equipment.

    Miner

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of this role is to mine and extract ore according to Mining legislation and regulations.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics (external candidates) / Grade 10 (Internal candidates) with 3 years’ experience in a hard rock mining environment;
    • Underground blasting certificate for Metalliferous Mines is essential;
    • Knowledge of SAP and MS Office will be an added advantage.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Taking charge of the underground blasting operations within the designated area;
    • Ensure the delivery of quality product to the plant;
    • Achieve the daily production targets;
    • Be familiar with the Production process activities, trends and brief operators accordingly at the start of each shift;
    • Collect explosives and accessories, lock up and transport to the face;
    • Transport explosives and accessories by means of a Self-Propelled mobile machine;
    • Handle explosives in the mining environment;
    • Lock up extra or unused explosives and accessories;
    • Monitor and control Blasting accessories stock levels;
    • Organize and control general road maintenance activities.

    Supervisor Operations

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The purpose of this role is to supervise the safe and efficient execution of Mining Operations.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Mathematics together with 3 years’ experience in trackless mining or underground mining and at least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity;
    • Drill & Blast and Development experience is advantageous;
    • Supervisor Certificate of Competency is essential.
    • A valid underground blasting certificate for Metalliferous Mines is essential;
    • Mine Overseer certificate will be advantageous;
    • Experience in MS Office and SAP will be an advantage;
    • Valid driver’s license is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Supervision of people reporting directly to you in a production section, inclusive of time management of employees and discipline in the work place;
    • Achieve monthly targets;
    • Initiate and integrate production planning sessions with other mine departments;
    • Manage feedback and execution of abovementioned planning to ensure production of quality ore at determined volumes;
    • Develop and implement continuous improvement techniques to enhance production functionality.

    Lead Tax

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • To implement the Group’s tax strategy and approach to tax risks in Africa.  Work with local advisers on all technical aspects of tax compliance, advisory, accounting and risk management for the Group’s African operations, ensuring that South32 maintains sustainable tax positions in compliance with applicable laws and in-line with stakeholder expectations.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Serious contenders will have a CA (SA) with a Higher Diploma in Taxation or a master’ degree in Taxation, 7-10 years related experience in a corporate tax or tax advisory environment, with some knowledge of mining tax principles;
    • Strong understanding of tax and financial accounting concepts with a high degree of attention to detail, drive for excellence and efficiency and sound time management is essential.

    CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Tax compliance: timely and accurate submission of all income tax, royalty and indirect tax returns for African operations, management of refund claims and preparation of transfer pricing documentation;
    • Tax advisory: provision of all advice to African operations and other corporate functions. Working with external advisers to ensure proactive advice is provided;
    • Tax controversy: management of compliance arrangements with South African revenue authorities (including reviews, audits and disputes) and management of African tax risks; and
    • Tax reporting: tax accounting postings to general ledgers and annual financial statements in terms of IFRS, including reporting of forecasted tax balances.

    Graduate Technology

    POSITION SYNOPSIS:

    • The goal of our Technology Platform Teams is to centralise our technical core systems and bring together the producers of technology with the consumers of technology in South32 by making services simple to access through automated and self-service products;

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Seriuos contenders  will  have  a Degree/BTECH/National Diploma in IT;
    • Exposure to Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint) will be advantageous;
    • Have an inclination to work in heavy industry;
