    Clinical Educator: Biokinetics

    Requirements

    • Masters’ degree in Biokinetics/ Human Movement Science/ Sport Science/ Exercise Science or related field in Health Sciences.
    • Registered as independent Biokineticist with HPCSA for at least 3 years.
    • At least two years of experience in teaching to undergraduate or postgraduate students in Biokinetics, Human Movement Science or Exercise Science
    • At least three years of experience as a practicing biokineticist within a Biokinetics Practice environment or multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Experience in clinical skills teaching to Biokinetic students and clinical supervision of Biokinetic students.
    • Evidence of previous experience in setting up and management of a clinical practice or a project related to health and wellness.  

        The following will be advantageous:

    • Experience Biokinetics Service Delivery in the Public Health Domain.
    • Active member of the Biokinetics Association of South Africa (BASA)

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and deliver lectures, tutorials, practicals and assessments to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Biokinetics groups.
    • Design and deliver clinical teaching and assessments for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Biokinetics students via clinical training platforms, case-study presentations, and patient simulation.
    • Provide clinical supervision to Undergraduate and Postgraduate Biokinetics students.
    • Assist in the curriculum development of a new Biokinetics Undergraduate Qualification.
    • Assist with the strategic development of a UCT Interdisciplinary Health Care Practice.
    • Manage the setting-up and day-to-day operations of the UCT Biokinetics Practice that will provide Biokinetics Services to incoming patients.
    • Lead and plan the development and manage the UCT Biokinetics Practice that will provide Biokinetics services to incoming patients.
    • Initiate and manage community-based Health and Wellness programmes for the provision of a clinical training platform for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Biokinetics students.
    • Perform leadership, management and administrative functions related to the operational needs of the Division, including teaching, clinical practice, convening of clinical rotations as well as curriculum development of the new Biokinetics Undergraduate Degree.

    Junior Research Fellow (Assist Lect) Dept of Oceanography

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., marine biogeochemistry, oceanography, environmental/Earth science, chemistry).
    • At least two years of relevant postdoctoral experience
    • Experience conducting experiments and collecting samples at sea
    • Strong background in experimental design and proficiency in applying analytical techniques related to marine biogeochemistry
    • Experience with isotope ratio mass spectrometry and the calibration and interpretation of isotope data
    • Experience working in low-oxygen and/or low-nutrient environments
    • A track record of conference presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on research projects

    • Experience using the denitrifier method to measure nitrogen isotopes
    • Experience conducting research using complementary techniques such as marine ‘omics
    • Experience in phytoplankton culturing techniques and designing laboratory-based culture studies
    • Multiple first-author publications in international peer-reviewed journals

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design and conduct field-based marine biogeochemistry research, including on research cruises, that contributes to research project deliverables.
    • Analyse a range of biogeochemical parameters in the laboratory, including the nitrogen and oxygen isotope ratios of dissolved and particulate nitrogen species via isotope ratio mass spectrometry.
    • Contribute to methods development, to improve and/or augment ongoing efforts in the Marine Biogeochemistry Lab.
    • Contribute to project logistics and annual reporting.
    • Participate in project meetings and other collaborative activities including workshops and summer schools.
    • Develop an independent, complementary research stream to augment the vision and capabilities of the Marine Biogeochemistry Lab.
    • Prepare and publish research findings in internationally recognised, peer-reviewed journals.
    • (Co-)supervise and mentor postgraduate students.
    • Present research at national and international conferences.
    • Contribute to grant writing to secure funding for future projects.
    • Maintain excellent planning and organisational skills to ensure efficient research project execution.

    • A PhD or Masters (MA) in Theatre and/or Performance Studies in a cognate field.     We are looking for an academic who:
