    Head Of Clinical Unit- Acute Care Surgery

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical specialist. A Minimum of 3 years appropriate experience in General Surgery after registration with HPCSA as a Medical specialist: Current registration with the HPCSA for 2026/2027. Exposure in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, involvement in research and management skills will be of an added advantage. Skills/ Knowledge/competence: Management experience. Computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Proven experience in Administration, Finance, Education, Research and expertise in General surgery. This experience should be in terms of clinical service provision, teaching, administration and research. The ability to establish excellent working relationships with anaesthetic team, emergency unit nursing team, ward nursing team.
    • The capacity to manage change both within the ACS team and within the emergency unit/theatre/ward continuum. The aptitude for increasing the “footprint” of the ACS service across the CHBAH hospital cluster. Surgical skillset to manage emergency general surgery patients, including laparoscopic skills.     Duties :

    • Provide leadership in service, teaching and research in the Acute Care Surgical Unit in the Department of General Surgery. Provide clinical and administrative support to the Head of Department in the efficient delivery of services to patients including outreach to referring hospitals, community health centres and clinics in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital health cluster.
    • Perform clinical duties in area of Acute Care Surgery. Ensure that appropriate, ethical and quality research is performed in the department as part of a wider agenda to explore improvements in health care in the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital area and South Africa as a whole with publication of the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
    • Lead and participate in research projects in areas of Acute Care Surgery. As part of the university’s responsibility, sufficient and quality teaching must be provided to undergraduates (medical students), postgraduate and fellowship students. Teach students in General Surgery.
    • Ensure that clinical services are provided. Active participation in administrative duties of the department which include planning, budgeting and procurement processes as well as monitoring and evaluation.

    • See to it that that quality assurance, including clinical audit, is conducted in the department in line with national core standards.     Requirements :

    Chief Speech Therapist Grade 1

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Speech Therapy and/or Speech therapy and Audiology. Current registration with the HPCSA for 2026/2027.

    Medical Specialist Grade 1 – 3 Session [Neurosurgery]

    Requirements :

    • Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and MBChB or equivalent certificate, MMed (Neurosurgery) or FCS (SA) or equivalent. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa for Independent Practice [Medical Specialist] in Neurosurgery.
    • Medical Specialist Grade 1 no experience after registration with HPCSA,
    • Medical Specialist Grade 2 - A minimum of 05 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA and

    Material Recording Clerk (level 7)

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 certificate. Degree or Diploma (NQF 6/7)Supply Chain Management/ Finance or equivalent with 3 years of years functional experience in an asset management environment preferably in a hospital setting.

    Registrar

    Requirements :

    • A BChD/BDS degree and currently registered with the HPCSA as a dentist in the category: Independent Practice.
    • A minimum of two years' experience as a general dental practitioner after completing community service.
    • Completion of primary subjects (anatomy and physiology).
    • The following will be added advantages, a post graduate qualification in Dentistry and/or a Masters in Dentistry (preferable Prosthodontics).
    • Research experience and publications. Student teaching and supervisions experience.

    Duties :

    • The candidate will be expected to carry out all responsibilities and requirements necessary for the completion of the MChD degree in Prosthodontics.
    • The duties include teaching and supervision of undergraduate students, treatment of patients using removable and/or fixed prosthodontics appliances including implants, CAD/CAM restorations and maxillofacial prostheses.

    Dental Specialist/Senior Lecturer

    Requirements :

    • An MChD (Oral Medicine and Periodontics) degree or equivalent qualification to allow registration with HPCSA as a specialist in Oral Medicine and Periodontics. Current registration with the HPCSA as a specialist (Independent Practice) in Oral Medicine and Periodontics.
    • Relevant experience in clinical practice of the specialty.

    • Additional qualifications and training in the field of Oral Medicine, Periodontics, Implantology and or health profession education.

    Duties :

    • The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering clinical services in the specialty of Oral Medicine and Periodontics (including Implant Dentistry). Additional responsibilities include teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    • The candidate will serve as the Module Chair/coordinator for undergraduate and postgraduate modules.
    • The role also involves assisting with departmental financial management, participating actively in research initiatives, and undertaking any other duties as assigned by the departmental head.
