    Rigid Dump Truck Operator - North West

    Role Context

    • Reports to the Load and Haul Supervisor
    • Responsible to fill and follow the pre – use Checklist.
    • Take full care of the truck in terms of its cleanliness and tyre protection.
    • Responsible for filling diesel
    • Do the break test ramp at the start of shift or any time when the truck comes from the workshop.
    • Reporting of faults to engineering and shift control.
    • Follow the Standard Operating Procedures as per MHSA guidelines.
    • Achieve the daily planned target of loads transported.
    • Report hourly tons/BCM hauled to Shift Controller
    • Look after the tyres by driving carefully and not driving on top of rocks on the haul road, tipping and loading areas. If such areas are experienced, the operator must call the Supervisor and the Controller to remove or fix such areas before hauling can continue. 
    • Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure at all times.
    • Adhere to all company rules and regulations and MHSA.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Grade 12/ NQF Level 4

    Job specific experience:

    • Must pass both medical and dover tests
    • Must be able to work shifts and also on all holidays
    • 1-year mining experience in open cast mining will be an advantage
    • Rigid Dump Truck Operator experience
    • Competent in relevant unit standards
    • Valid driving license code 08/14
    • Should have excellent communication in English both verbally and written

    Raw Material Operator - North West

    Role Context

    • Ensure adherence to all safety (i.e. create awareness of hazards and behaviour)
    • Correct non-compliance to objectives and safety standards
    • Comply to safety rules, policies and procedures
    • Contribute in pre-shift safety and work discussions
    • Completion of necessary documents (i.e. Risk assessments, inspection sheets, job cards, etc.)
    • Ensure that team members execute all tasks safely
    • Assist colleagues on process adjustments to maintain high recoveries and quality of products
    • Adherence to the shift production plan
    • Operate the equipment in the section
    • Adherence to agreed process parameters for the efficient operation of the process section to achieve hourly and shiftly targets
    • Assist with conducting of planned task observations on process attendants
    • Adhere to the planned inspection schedule for critical equipment in the section in order to ensure preventative action is taken before equipment failure occurs by reporting deviations/defects timeously
    • Communicate failures/breakdowns and deviations in process or equipment to the Foreman
    • Assist support services during breakdowns in order to limit downtime while ensuring adherence to safety standards
    • Conduct equipment inspections and section inspections at the start of every shift and correct deficiencies
    • Good housekeeping practices

    • Metals production skills program beneficial or similar

    RPAS Coordinator - North West

    Role Context

    • Organise, plan and execute UAS flights for surveying, monitoring and mapping purposes across TM Surface Right areas, including pre and post checking, ground control and processing, ensuring adherence to all mine procedures and legal requirements.
    • Supervise the collection of data via drones and collaborate with relevant departments for the analysis and interpretation of gathered information.
    • Collate UAS related information from all stakeholders and submit to superior as updates regarding aerial surveys, processing, georeferencing and the ortho-mosaic, ensuring governance documentation for TM is maintained.
    • Coordinate weekly and monthly waste calculations to enable the creation of final waste reports.
    • Manage scheduled and ad hoc aerial surveys, volume measurements and mining certificates, using UAS equipment, to supervise the collection of relevant data across TM Surface Right areas, including open pits.
    • Provide subject matter expertise during Land Management Programs to address any survey issues identified according to the survey designs, including problems related to Rights, leases, servitudes, SRP’s etc.
    • Conduct daily safety meetings with subordinates and risk assessments prior to any survey work being conducted, to identify and report any substandard conditions.
    • Identify and report on unauthorised usage of surface areas, to ensure adherence to all mine standards procedures and legal requirements.
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant aviation regulation, mine safety protocols and legal requirements governing drone operations.
    • Identify potential hazards, assess risks associated with drone operations and implement strategies to mitigate them, to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Import and export electronic information from other systems to resolve internal data requests in the required format.
    • Stay abreast with latest UAS technological developments to identify and recommend any new technology to optimise mine surveying operations.
    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
    • Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Conduct or oversee training programs for drone pilots and personnel involved in UAS operations to ensure competency and safety awareness.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Chamber of Mines Advanced Certificate in Surveying (NQF6)/National Diploma (NQF6) in Surveying
    • BTech Degree (NQF7) is preferred
    • Driving Licence
    • Remote Pilot License

    Job specific experience:

    • Minimum of between three to five (3-5) years relevant experience
    • Experience using survey instruments, including drones 
    • Experience using Deswik, Agisoft Metashape and Global Mapper systems
    • Experience using CAD/Model Maker related software is advantageous

    Section Engineer - JHB North

    Role Context

    Operational Management

    • Provide input to strategic plans of the section by compiling comprehensive operational plans, converting the section into an enabler of the overall business strategy of the organisation.
    • Keep abreast of changes in relevant guidelines and other legislation, to make recommendations where policies, processes and/or procedures require amendment.
    • Develop, enhance and implement policies, processes and Operational procedures that are within the respective section to ensure an efficient and reliable operation of equipment and machinery in mining operations.
    • Manage and coordinate the maintenance operational activities and plans for the section to enable preventative maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting.
    • Develop maintenance plans, schedules, processes and standard operating procedures to ensure optimal equipment performance and availability.
    • Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes and systems by collaborating with production teams including plant managers, engineers, contractors and other professionals to create maintenance plans and schedules that minimise disruption to mining operations.
    • Lead the development of action plans and operational strategies by applying root cause analyses to identify problems and put corrective actions in place.
    • Oversee the maintenance and repair of mining equipment and machinery  and drive adherence to maintenance standards by conducting regular inspections and prioritising repairs based on equipment criticality and business standards.
    • Lead the investigation, problem identification and evaluation of maintenance processes to develop solutions and recommend modifications to optimise and improve performance.  

    Financial Management

    • Analyse all relevant Department data and report on Departmental trends and operating requirements so as to determine funding requirements for the financial year.
    • Monitor short-term Departmental budgets by scrutinising and aligning spend within the section, to support and drive effective and efficient functioning within budgetary constraints.
    • Monitor Departmental expenditure against budget allocations, requesting appropriate reallocation as required, to manage the prevention of unnecessary spend.
    • Comply with all financial, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and other Tharisa Minerals (TM) regulations and policies by facilitating the right actions, to reduce financial risk in the Department.
    • Conduct analysis regarding cost, time and impact on production in order to setup and prepare financial budget and expenditure principles for the section.
    • Develop maintenance budget and cost control including comparing repair versus replacement parts to enable cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or equipment performance.

    People Management

    • Create and maintain a conducive work environment by appropriately applying Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure optimum performance is realised for the benefit of the Department and, by extension, the organisation.
    • Lead the team according to TM’s leadership principles and values throughout the entire employee life cycle (performance management, reward etc) to ensure, inter alia, a high-performance culture.
    • Coach, mentor and train team and drive efforts to ensure adequate training and skills development is in place to improve employee performance.
    • Manage a high-performance culture for the section by providing critical and timely feedback (both positive and critical), enabling individuals to improve and work as effectively as possible to meet operational goals.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
    • Collaborate with external vendors/service providers to provide support with regards to installations and specialised equipment repairs and maintenance.
    • Liaise with other departments including production, engineering and procurement to coordinate maintenance activities, share information and address issues that impact mining operations to minimise disruption of production.

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Manage the implementation and adherence to safety protocols, regulatory compliance and environmental standards to ensure a safe working environment in line with the Mining Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
    • Develop a risk register to keep record of potential risks and implement a work ethos across the section that is committed to safeguarding employee safety, health and wellbeing and take remedial actions where necessary to minimise incidents.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments and influence compliance with all relevant regulations, mining laws, by-laws and safety standards to promote a strong safety culture and ensure risk escalation within the section.
    • Manage equipment handling by putting in place control measure to ensure equipment handed back to the operation is in a safe and operable condition.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • BSC/BTech Degree (NQF 7) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

    Certifications:

    • Government Certificate of Compliance (GCC) certificate

    Job specific experience:

    • 8 – 10 years’ experience in mining of which at least 3 years in a supervisory position
