    Chief Safety Officer

    Minimum Qualifications / Experience

    • Grade 12 Certificate.
    • National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent qualification in Mining.
    • Bachelor’s degree/B-Tech Degree in Safety Management would be advantageous.
    • Blasting Certificate.
    • Valid driver’s licence (Code EB/08).
    • SAMTRAC/SHEMTRAC Certificate
    • COMSOC 1 and 2 Certificates
    • Extensive experience in an integrated Risk Management Programme.
    • Internal Auditing Course
    • At least 5 years’ experience in safety management in the mining Industry, especially in Underground and Opencast Mining
    • Strong knowledge on RCAT and or ICAM incident investigation Technique
    • Professional knowledge of safety aspects with experience in integrated SHE management systems in a mining environment, i.e. OHSAS18001 / ISO45001, ISO31001
    • Ability to meet the requirements of the appointment of Chief Safety Officer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to interact at all levels both internally and externally
    • Must be Computer literate in Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting and auditing standards
    • Candidates must be medically fit to perform duties (Determined by Occupational Medical Practitioner)

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Fulfil the duties of a Chief Safety Officer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act
    • Develop, implement and maintain a Safety Management System and a Risk Management programme to ensure achievement of objectives, by establishing and implementing approved medium and long-term plans, aligned to the Company’s strategic business goals.
    • Provide specialist technical knowledge and advice to all levels of management and resolve a wide range of Safety and Risk Management-related problems and related interfacing issues, requiring solutions for new projects, unusual conditions and corrective measures
    • Manage the Company’s Safety System which is based on OHSAS18001 requirements and the Risk Management programme to maintain corporate standards by:
    • Continually reviewing programmes and implementing adjustments to ensure alignment with developments and safety standards on the Mine and within the mining industry.
    • Conduct continual operational Risk Assessments & evaluate Baseline Risk Assessments
    • Provide information, support and assist HSE regional office to ensure all policies, COP’s, standards & procedures and guidelines are developed
    • Analysing trends, interpreting results and implementing recommended corrective action mine-wide
    • Facilitating change processes to ensure continuous improvements to internal control systems, employee participation and management support.
    • Develop and implement safety-related policies, procedures, control standards and measures.
    • Review and update existing cross functional Mine SHE and Mandatory COP’s, Standards & Procedures.
    • MOSH participation, feedback and implementation of initiatives.
    • Manage subordinates to deliver the outputs of their jobs
    • Develop effective working relationships with consultants, liaise with IOM’s and any other Governmental authorities and participate in seminars/forums to keep abreast of developments within the mining industry.
    • Understand and interpret all relevant safety-related legislations, regulations and standards as it applies to the Mine’s operations, confirm interpretation with the Inspector of Mines and Machinery and manage implementation.
    • Inform management of any legislative changes and implications thereof and proactively review the necessary programmes.

    Loader Operator (Dennegeur Quarry)

    Minimum Qualifications / Experience

    • Minimum Grade 9
    • Must have 3 -5 years’ experience.
    • Be literate and functionally numerate.
    • Pre-employment medical required.
    • Must have a valid Operator’s Certificate
    • Must have a basic mechanical background.
    • Ability to sit for long periods.
    • Ability to see well and distinguish between back up alarms, voices and other normal sounds consistent with construction job sites

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Operating Front-End Loader on site to load all trucks with product in time without contamination.
    • Ensure that all stockpiles are kept neat and safe
    • Operate F.E.L in a respectful safe manner in line with the training received.
    • Keep the machine clean, safe and in good working order by completing daily pre-start checklist correctly
    • Assist with the housekeeping around the production area.
    • Be able to work under pressure and sometimes extended hours (including overtime and Saturdays).
    • Must be able to carry out instructions given by your superior.
    • Able to work as part of a team
    • Be safety conscious.

    People Management Officer (Lichtenburg)

    Afrimat is seeking the services of an experienced People Management Officer to take on all operational People Management tasks for Afrimat Lichtenburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all people management functions and
    will report to the PM Manager.

    Minimum Qualification/Experience:

    • Relevant tertiary qualification preferably a degree in People Management or Industrial Psychology
    • A minimum of 5 years experience in generalist People Management-related functions and experience in the mining industry with experience on the Social and Labour Plans would be advantageous.
    • Language profeciencies: English; Afrikaans and Setswana would be advantageous
    • Perform Generalist PM functions, a.o. Organisational development, Learning & Development, Administration, Employee Relations
    • Ability to address employee relations professionally, consistently, fairly, and with empathy.
    • In-depth knowledge of people management best practices
    • Experience & knowledge of People Management Information Systems (SAGE 300) as well as BEE123 would be advantageous
    • Ability to work under pressure and independently without close supervision
    • Ability to plan, organize and control priorities with good administrative and communication skills
    • Must have knowledge of applicable Legislation relevant to People Management

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Providing effective and efficient People Management advice and guidance to staff and management team.
    • Formulate, improve, communicate and monitor value-adding People Management guidelines.
    • Manage the recruitment and selection process in line with the business’s needs
    • Provide ongoing guidance and support to management and employees on employee relations matters.
    • Actively promote and oversee learning and development initiatives, including succession planning and talent management as well as the implementation of the SLP’s
    • Ensure compliance with all legislative reporting requirements related to Employment Equity and Skills Development
    • Developing and maintaining sustainable absenteeism and overtime management practices.
    • Roll out employee engagement/performance management and change management processes linked to the business strategy.
    • Drive OD and employee welfare initiatives at the mines
    • Implementation of IDPs, WSP, and ATR submissions
    • Oversee and proactively manage the formal communication structures and processes between employees, unions and management.
    • Actively promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
    • Represent the company at CCMA matters and union substantive negotiatings.

    Plant/ Site Manager (Mpumalanga)

    Minimum Qualification/Experience:

    • Preferably a qualification in Engineering / a certified trade (skilled artisan).
    • Experience in management principals with at least 5 years’ + experience.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Able to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels.
    • A code 08 driver’s license.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office).

    Responsibilities include (but not limited to the following):

    • Manage the production outputs by directing and coordinating the activities of the staff.

    • Ensure all required equipment is available for production and drive preventative maintenance effort.

    • Knowledge of relevant legislation, e.g. Safety, Environmental regulations, Labour Legislation and ensure site compliance.
    • Liaise with sales staff to ensure that customers’ requirements are met.

    Plantsman (Bethlehem)

    Minimum Qualification/Experience:

    • Grade 12 is essential
    • Boilermaker/Fitter trade test
    • 2 years of safety management experience and an in-depth technical and operational knowledge of all processes, systems, tools and equipment, related to the aggregates industry, and fixed quarry plant operation and maintenace practices, in particular
    • Basic Numeracy and literacy
    • Knowledge of the AMS
    • Proven track record in a plant production and/or maintenance role
    • At least 3-5 years of experience in a high-pressure production or maintenance environment
    • Proven leadership qualities

    Responsibilities include (but not limited to the following):

    • Ensuring a safe and legally complaint working environment and work practices at the plant
    • Taking full responsibility for maintaining and improving productivity of the plant which includes amongst others; optimising plant settings; quality control, performing first level maintenance, cost control; managing reporting staff; planning and executing work; tracking and reporting plant performance
    • Ensuring adequate technical capacity to effectively and sustainably support the fixed plant maintenance requirements of the operation
    • Establishing a pro-active and performance-based maintenance culture on the plant and collaborating with earthmoving equipment maintenance staff to ensure minimal downtime and a coordinated maintenance effort to support effective production and financial results
    • Create an effective team environment and culture. Developing self and reporting staff (skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled) within own reporting ranks to their full potential
    • Achieve the plant KPI's (availability, utilisation, hit-rate, production and overall plant efficiency targets)
    • Running the plant to achieve set production targets
