The Electoral Commission (IEC) seeks to fill the position of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).

The IEC is an independent and impartial permanent body created by the Constitution to promote and strengthen constitutional democracy in South Africa through the delivery of free and fair elections at all levels of government. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is the Accounting Officer of the IEC and the head of administration and reports to the Commission. The CEO will oversee the formulation and the execution of the strategic plan of the Electoral Commission; and monitor and report on its implementation. The CEO will also support the Commission in the performance of its powers, duties and functions; and ensures the implementation of its decisions. In addition, the CEO is responsible for the essential functions assigned to him or her by the law and leads the organisation in all aspects of his/her executive mandate.

Role & Responsibilities:

The Chief Electoral Officer will have the ability to manage a variety of stakeholders, including international stakeholders, political parties, parliament, and civil society among others.

Key requirements:

• A post graduate qualification or a Bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience at executive management level.
• +10 years at senior management level is essential.
• Have operated in an Executive or C-Level capacity either in the Public Sector OR Private sector.
• Should also be able to represent the organisation locally and internationally at executive level.
• Have a sound understanding of democratic electoral processes, the statutory framework in which the IEC operates, budgeting, and tender procedures within public sector, and the PFMA.
• Strategic leadership and management, conflict resolution, legal interpretation, project management and effective communication skills and a commitment to transformation and change.
• A strong appreciation of technology and logistics.
