Accountant - Consolidations Group Finance at MTN

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Accountant: Consolidations role will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:

Strategy Support and Implementation  

• Support the sub-divisional strategy in line with the overarching business goals.
• Provide input and implement frameworks, models, plans, objectives and roadmaps within approved budgets.
• Deliver service aligned to the MTN framework, policies, procedures and templates established for Record to Report (R2R).
• Continuously provide input and improve the reporting framework and timelines established.
• Keep abreast of latest developments in IFRS and integrate into MTN Group accounting policies and procedures.
• Support the development / update of intercompany policies and procedures.

Operational Delivery

• Define intercompany transactions and account types to be used to account for intercompany transactions.
• Assist Group operations on accounting issues and implementation.
• Identify and document key risks, issues and dependencies and propose mitigation actions and controls.
• Implement and maintain financial consolidation system and processes.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS. 
• Support Markets in completing their period end and budget activities in line with the frameworks established, including:
• collating and loading of exchange rates 
• assessing validity of intercompany mismatches including the loading thereof
• assisting with the financial, cash flow and statutory disclosure load in accordance with IFRS
• Process approved year-end adjustments.
• Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact.
• Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery.
• Perform evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Provide input into the preparation of proposal on change initiatives SLA, policies and procedures.

Project delivery

• Prepare documentation required for sign-off regarding tactical changes.
• Assist with the accounting for merger and acquisition activity and other variable transactions.
• Perform business needs analysis for master data requirements / business intelligence reporting.
• Assist and provide input into transformational initiatives within Finance CoEs and enterprise-wide, as applicable and support the required change. 
• Support the delivery of ad hoc projects.

Audit Processes

• Assist in the preparation and distribution of the audit plan and audit instructions. 
• Assist in managing the external audit process by way of collating information and dealing with audit queries.
• Investigate and provide input to audit differences.

Reporting

• Perform the consolidation of financial results (financial information) for monthly, quarterly and annual results as well as forecast, high level budgets and business plans.
• Assist in preparing the interim and year end reporting documents.
• Retrieve/extract financial reports to provide financial information to internal stakeholders and analysts on request by management. 
• Collaborate with Finance teams for various reporting requirements ensuring that required commentary is included.

Role Dependencies

• Active support from the Senior Manager: Financial Consolidations.
• Understanding of the respective Financial, Operational, and business contexts.
• Intra functional collaboration with other lines of finance.
• MTN policies and procedures (dependence on understanding, complying and applying).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Minimum 3-year Bachelor of Commerce Degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance.
• Completion of SAICA articles.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting.
• Experience in consolidations systems (Hyperion Financial Management preferred).
• Experience in financial accounting.
• Experience in intercompany transactions, consolidations, financial reporting (advantageous).
• Experience in the consolidation of a multi-currency environment (advantageous).
• Work and exposure to multinational organisations across diverse cultures and geographies (advantageous).
• Understanding of emerging markets (advantageous).
• Proven knowledge and application of IFRS.
