Barley Seed Manager - Caledon at The South African Breweries (SAB)

Summary

The key purpose of this role is to contribute to the malting barley development program by:

• Being responsible for overseeing the entire life cycle of barley seed production and distribution within Africa.
• Strategic planning, coordination with various stakeholders, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of barley seed operations.
• Provide an information service to barley producers on the cultivation of malting barley to enhance quality and yield.

Key roles and responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for barley seed production and distribution in alignment with organizational goals.
• Analyze market trends, demand, and activities to identify opportunities.
• Collaborate with agricultural experts and local producers to optimize barley cultivation practices.
• Implement best practices for seed selection, planting, harvesting, and storage to ensure high-quality barley seeds.
• Establish and enforce quality control measures throughout the seed production process.
• Work closely with research and development teams to incorporate the latest advancements in barley seed technologies.
• Manage the end-to-end supply chain, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution of barley seeds.
• Foster relationships with suppliers and distributors to ensure a reliable and efficient supply network.
• Stay abreast of local and international regulations related to seed production and distribution.
• Ensure all operations comply with legal and environmental standards.
• Handle all contacting with stakeholders.

Seed Production Yield:

• KPI: Achieve and maintain a target yield per hectare for each barley seed variety.

Supply Chain Efficiency:

Profile:

• Degree in an agricultural (plant production) discipline with at least five years relevant experience.
• SANSOR Diploma for production and certification of pure seed for cultivar maintenance with at least three years relevant experience.
