    Bequest and Gift Administrator

    The annual remuneration package, including benefits, ranges between R531 313 and R625 071.

    • The University of Cape Town (UCT) invites applications for the position of Bequest & Gift Administrator in the Development and Alumni Department (DAD), within the Philanthropy team.
    • Reporting to the Deputy Head of Philanthropy, this role manages and oversees administration of donations made through bequests and other forms of planned giving.
    • The role carries specific responsibility for ensuring the legal integrity of gift and grant agreements, while supporting fundraisers and ensuring broader regulatory compliance.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

    • NQF Level 6 qualification in a relevant field (e.g. law, commerce, finance, or nonprofit management).
    • At least 5 years' relevant experience (e.g. in legal contracts, donor relations, planned giving, fundraising administration, or a related field).
    • Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multi-task.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Access).
    • Ability to work under pressure.

     

     

    THE FOLLOWING WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUS:

    • A background in tax law or a working knowledge of South African tax legislation as it applies to charitable giving and nonprofit compliance.
    • Experience in the higher education or nonprofit fundraising environment.
    • Familiarity with estate planning, gift acceptance policies, donor stewardship practices, and CRM systems.

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Coordinate estate settlements and liaise with fundraisers, legal advisors, executors, and internal stakeholders to facilitate the transfer to UCT.
    • Develop and implement procedures and tracking systems for accepting, processing, and acknowledging bequests.
    • Prepare and review legally sound gift and grant agreements for major gifts (above ZAR 500,000) in line with UCT policies, including compliance with all applicable legislation.
    • Provide guidance to fundraisers, on bequests, planned giving, and the tax implications of charitable donations.
    • Maintain accurate CRM records of bequests, pledges, gift agreements, and donor information, and prepare reports for leadership.
    • Ensure agreements comply with relevant legislation, regulations, and institutional policies, including the Income Tax Act, POPIA, and sector best practices.
    • Track, analyse, and report on bequest and income from commitments captured in agreements as well as anticipated revenue on a quarterly basis.
