Coordinator - Project Delivery at Orica

About The Role

Orica are both excited and proud to announce a new long term blasting partnership with our customer De Beers Group at their iconic Venetia Mine operations, which contributes 40% of South Africa's annual diamond production.

As a result of this exciting partnership, we are searching for a Coordinator - Project Delivery who will assume responsibility for successfully project managing the construction, commissioning and completion of all of Orica's fixed and mobile plant assets in a timely, efficient, and most importantly, a safe manner. The new chemical plant and machinery will be used to successfully service the underground blasting activities on this multi-billion dollar mining operation.

The Coordinator - Project Delivery will be based on-site at Venetia, which is located in Northern Transvaal, 32km south of the Limpopo River in the Limpopo Province in the north-east corner of South Africa. Should the successful candidate reside in another location of South Africa, Orica will cover flights and accommodation for the duration of the construction project. This is a contract position for 18 months, and we are reasonably flexible and negotiable with roster arrangements.

This opportunity will suit a pragmatic and analytical individual with incredible organisational skills, has inclusive and well-developed leadership skills, and is excellently-versed in all construction methodologies.

What You Will Be Doing

• Collaborating with engineers, architects and other multi-disciples to determine the specifications and tracking of the project;
• Negotiating contracts with external vendors, and managing the performance of those vendors;
• Obtaining permits, licenses and other mandatory working-right requirements from appropriate authorities;
• Determining needed resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations;
• Planning all construction operations and scheduling intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met;
• Acquiring equipment and materials, and monitoring stock levels in order to handle any project inadequacies;
• Supervising, and providing guidance, support and encouragement to all laborers, mechanics, trades and other project workers;
• Evaluating progress and preparing detailed reports and presentations to the project mobilisation team;
• At all times and without exception, ensuring adherence to all health and safety standards.

What You Will Bring

• Proven experience as construction project manager, preferably within the underground mining industry;
• In-depth understanding of construction procedures and project management principles;
• Excellent spoken and written English;
• Sound knowledge in Mechanical & Civil Installations;
• Advanced knowledge of quality and SHES standards;
• Proven experience of using MS Project in addition to other construction/project management software;
• Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational and time-management skill;
• An inclusive and collaborative leader, able to achieve targets by bringing people on the journey;
• Tertiary qualification in engineering, building science or relevant field will be advantageous, but not essential.
