Developer at FREI One Digital (Pty) Limited

We are looking for a dynamic developer to join our team of nerds. Our offices are based in Pretoria, but remote work is possible.

The successful candidate will be assigned broad responsibilities and their analysis skills within the software development stream will be optimised as they will be involved in developing new functionality (dealt with as projects) as well as maintaining existing systems (part of operational maintenance tasks).

Responsibilities

Standards

• Adherence to best coding practices (pair programming, refactoring, code reviews, commenting on code, unit testing).

Architecture

• Maintain a coherent digital architecture (already defined) and build out to support solutions.

Accuracy

• How effectively can you deliver on the expected requirement.

Conceptualisation

• Analysis, design, and verification of solutions from concept to delivery to operations.

Continuous improvement

• Constant evolution and improvement of business capabilities in support of agreed technology strategies and tactics.

Code evaluation

• Evaluate and test own code, as well as identifying new opportunities and reuse existing capabilities to solve or improve design problems and solutions.

Mentorship

• Be able to lead a team of developers towards building solutions.

Knowledge sharing

• Be able to lead a team of support Engineers to operationalise solutions.

Delivery

• Design, plan, code, and document new or existing functionality.

Learning

• Learn and adopt new technology or frameworks as required.

Completion

• Delivery of work commitments within agreed timelines.

Hardening & stabilisation

• Support and maintenance (bug-fixes, management of technical debt, client defects).

Qualifications

• B-Tech, B.IT, B. Eng or BSc in Computer Science (Degree is a minimum requirement)

Experience

• 3-6 years experience as a programmer in JAVA
• Practical/Technical experience required
• JAVA / Java EE knowledge
• PostgresSQL knowledge and experience
• Experience in the Financial / Telecommunication industry
• At least 3 years’ experience working in an Agile/SCRUM environment
• Experience and knowledge of DEV-OPS processes, Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD)
• Experience either working in a support environment or managing a software environment.
