    Group HR Manager

    Key Responsibilities

    • Write and post job ads
    • Pre-screen candidates
    • Administer skill sets
    • Create competency-based interview questionnaires
    • Interview applicants
    • Discuss benefits and compensation
    • Conducting reference checks
    • Prepare employment contract, offer letters, and onboarding documentation
    • maintain accurate employee records and HR files
    • Monitor probation periods and conduct probation reviews
    • Create and manage “settle-in” interviews and create processes for improvement
    • Manage all apprentice life cycle
    • Apply for apprentice trade test dates with College and MERseta
    • Skills Matrix for all staff employed at the group
    • Training needs analysis
    • Plan and manage workers skills development for both short term and long-term needs
    • Submit annual WSP/ATR
    • Apply for discretionary and mandatory grants
    • Implementation of individual development plans
    • In-house training for staff
    • Manage training budget
    • Industrial relations training for managers
    • Manage employment equity meetings/forums
    • Draft employment equity policies
    • Recruit within EE guidelines
    • Submission of annual EE
    • Assess and create an overall better company culture to boost company performance
    • Strategies to ensure the staff employed are aligned with the company mission, values and vision of the company
    • Succession planning
    • Talent management/staff retention strategies
    • Manage employee-employer communication
    • Ensure processes run smoothly
    • Process and management company benefits (medical aid, provident fund)
    • Ensure that EE recruitment is done to ensure better status or maintaining current statuses
    • Design and implement IR strategies while trying to engage employees
    • Key point of contact for unions in order to resolve issues
    • Providing expert advice to managers on next steps according to the disciplinary code
    • Provide managers with training on issuing warnings, initiating a disciplinary hearing, etc.
    • Dealing with and resolving grievances in terms of the law
    • Chair disciplinary hearings
    • Represent the company at the DRC/CCMA (up to arbitration)
    • Conflict management
    • Ensuring consistency within the company
    • Manage performance and ensure staff are put onto performance improvement plans when the need arises
    • Provide counselling
    • Ensure training of health and Safety, First Aid, etc.
    • Manage frequent fire drills
    • Compliance with department of labour and COIDA
    • Prepare for Department of Labour Inspections
    • Ensure staff uniform and PPE is ordered according to bargaining council deadlines
    • Issue acceptance of resignation letters
    • Conduct exit interviews
    • Terminate employee on necessary platforms
    • Provide reference letters
    • Provide termination documents (UI.19, salary schedule, final payslip, certificate of service, etc.)
    • Oversee the end-to-end payroll function to ensure accurate and timely processing of all payrolls.
    • Supervise and provide guidance to the payroll team, ensuring payroll procedures and deadlines are consistently met.
    • Review and approve payroll input, calculations, statutory deductions, allowances, overtime, leave, and final payments before payroll is processed.
    • Conduct final payroll verification and sign off the payroll prior to processing salary payments.
    • Authorise the loading and release of salary payments through the banking system in accordance with company approval processes.
    • Ensure payroll complies with all applicable South African legislation, including PAYE, UIF, SDL, pension/provident fund, bargaining council requirements, and other statutory obligations.
    • Monitor payroll controls to minimise errors, prevent fraud, and maintain confidentiality of employee information.
    • Ensure accurate reconciliation of payroll reports and statutory deductions before submission to Finance and relevant authorities.
    • Resolve complex payroll queries and provide support to management and employees on payroll-related matters.
    • Ensure payroll records are maintained accurately and are audit-ready.
    • Liaise with Accountant
    • Review payroll policies and procedures and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
    • Ensure all payroll processes comply with internal company policies and legislative requirements and that payroll audits are completed successfully
    • Drafting policies and procedures/Disciplinary code
    • Prepare skills assessments and competency frameworks
    • Create job grading
    • Create and maintain job descriptions and job advertisements
    • Processing of all COIDA, sending medical reports and uploading documents
    • Ensure COIDA submission, forecast and payments are done annually
